Today, before reading part of Dante‘s Inferno, we worked as a class to create our own Inferno, creating five circles in which misdeeds from our school would be cleverly punished. It was a fun step inside Dante’s creative process and definitely piqued interest in the canto we read.

Tried a new technique for handing back papers today: Students shade the BINGO card based on feedback, tape it in their notebook, and write a “next time note” to themselves based on what’s blank. This will provide a point of reference for the editing in their next writing process ✅

Reading Bleak House, an intimidating tome I’ve always wanted to read but never have, was incredible. The book was a big part of that…but perusing the notes of other reader-teachers from around the world was the real gift 🎁 Happy so many could join us for a slow read, and here’s to next time 🥂

Strategies for approaching AI in writing class don’t have to be cumbersome or punitive. Sometimes all it takes is building in more time to write and to think about our own writing process and a tool for transparency. Students who value their own voice don’t want a machine to hijack their process.
