I got mine today—while masked of course. I took a Rideshare & when the driver asked how my day was going — I said it was going great because I’m getting my vaccines! Just trying to normalize healthy choices.

Not the specific scene I’m referring to—but I absolutely believe it. Sadly a universal experience for many women/girls in punk scenes. Stay safe out there!

I should add: thanks to Facebook making my rapist a “friend” suggestion—I was able to confront him via DM. I downloaded & saved those messages, his acknowledgement of rapes (yes, plural) as well as rape apologists from that scene. I saved my entire FB history before deleting my account.

my insistence to have all traces of me & the photos I took & contributed, removed from the most recent printing of a book about that punk scene. Or maybe I should just take care of myself cuz every headline rape story & discourse picks at the wound of my own experience 44 years ago, as a 19yo.

Over 1,200 sexual assault cases in a six year period at Cornell. The current case involves 7 men gang raping and drugging a student and being assigned essays as punishment. In 6 years, only 7 students have been expelled or dismissed. That’s less than 0.006%. Cornell sides with rapists.

Cornell rarely expels students in sex assault cases | Exclusive
A third of undergraduate women say they've been sexually assaulted. But on average, Cornell reported expelling just one attacker per year.

Hey shit for brains, my rapist was not a “rich asshole” or a “meth head uncle”. He was an average, friendly, middle class, non drinking non smoking non drug using guy who I’d known for years. A “nice guy”, close with his parents & siblings—including his sisters.

I’ve always known folks who avoid “sad” content: in art or film or literature or books and they usually avoid watching the news because “it’s all bad/sad anyway”. So I feel like we’ve already started seeing the results of that in franchise movies & low info voters.

We’ve now reached the point of “black site” hearings – secret, illegal hearings as part of Trump & Stephen Miller’s wretched crusade to detain & deport our immigrant neighbors. Quite literally: hidden tribunals that disappear people.

I haven’t forgotten that Obama’s first pres campaign included pledging to codify Roe “on Day 1”. When asked about it in Year 2 he said Roe was “no longer a priority”. Huge thanks to him & RBG for fucking it up.

One of the really cool things about this case is that one of the lead plaintiffs is Lioness - a nonprofit run by women who did time in sweltering Texas prisons themselves. Then they got out and spearheaded this lawsuit that could drastically improve life for all their sisters still inside.

Good-due all the confusion I kept hearing around rank choice voting the first time around- I'm constantly repeating never to rank anyone you don't want to have even the slimmest chance in hell of winning. (it's my PSA thing, not assuming anything about you thing)

It's a drag that it sounds like "voting against" instead of voting*for* a candidate. Like Dems just being the Not Trump option. With rank choice voting nothing is guaranteed for the most high profile opponent if that opponent isn't ranked. But I absolutely understand the concern.

Your rhetoric is no different than bs neo liberals claiming I have a "purity test" just because I believe in trans rights & not throwing trans under the bus just for votes. Mitch is not the tent. DSA is. Hero worship on the left is no better than hero worship on the right.

Sounds like it was neighbors wondering why the fuck anyone was setting any sort of fire during a burn ban. Painting strangers as the villain doesn't make Mitch look any better. But I get it, just as Dems never wanted to hear criticisms of either Clinton, it seems that some DSAers do the same.

when fire department was called by neighbors to put out the fire in his yard--and his "explanation" was that he didn't know he couldn't. Even though it's a long standing law and there was a very clear, publicly & repeatedly announced burn ban in effect. Truly a dangerous & dimwitted act.

You can’t have it both ways. You can’t be “It’s simple math, vote blue no matter who, grow up” and ALSO believe you are fighting fascism by making calculations as to who’s expendable. The world we’re in now demands more from us. More from everyone.

It’s very simple and it’s been said over and over but I guess it needs saying continuously: if you deem one group too small to have equal rights you are enabling fascism, not fighting it. The people saying Dems are GREAT on trans rights are not paying attention and/or saying stuff like this.

Unfortunately Mitch also set debris on fire in yard which is illegal within city limits and he did it *during a burn ban* aka wildfire season in a densely green area. As pro-DSA & anti cop as I am—-Mitch is not someone I’d vote for if he were in my own district.
