On our way to the clinic, workmen had closed off a section of the sidewalk, and the side street was closed. I was pushing mom in the wheelchair, and when they saw us coming, they stopped their work, moved their equipment, and moved the barricades to let us pass. 😮 -

Today, I mailed off our midterm election ballots to the US. I had to send it by courier because of DumpTruck’s post office shenanigans, so it cost 65€ per letter, and we couldn’t bundle them together in order to avoid any chance of validity questions. 🙃 But it’s done, and I’m relieved.

Meanwhile, Mona is creeping on our bird friends at the feeders.

Mona, a black Scottish terrier in a purple collar, sits on a leather bench, staring out the wooden casement window toward the garden and the street beyond. Ever vigilant.

This is either a Willow Warbler or a Common chiffchaff, neither of which I’d ever heard of before, but apparently they’re similar enough to be virtually indistinguishable unless they sing. I’m not about to open the window so Mona can give her opinions, so I have to be happy with the ambiguity.

This morning, I ordered two pear trees to plant in our garden, a “Conference” and a “Jeanne d’Arc”. They should stay relatively small but still provide food and shade and habitat for wildlife. I want to place them in front of the house to help add some privacy and a little shade to the entrance. -
