When I did some research on the new cherry tree, it needs 5 meters distance from my other fruit trees, so I had to change up my planting plan. I moved the Jeanne d’Arc pear over where we had a cedar tree cut down, and the cherry is now in front of the house by the roses. There’s another cherry -

Today, I went to the agricultural Coop and to a large garden store to buys some more things for the garden. I filled our tiny car twice, and I’ve brought back things I hope will add to our food forest in time, as well as some flowering things for the pollinators.

Finis! Just in time. Rain is on its way. What a big improvement! And the outside looks great as well. Hopefully, our neighbors will be happy too.

Wahoo! My little greenhouse arrived! It was super easy to assemble by myself, and it’ll hold our garden shelves plus another besides, as well as our potted orange tree, keeping herbs and things from freezing in all but the coldest weather. And I can start spring seeds there as well. 🎉

Today, our front garden wall is being cleaned, repaired with concrete where needed, and then painted. I don’t know if they can finish it all today, but I think it will make a big difference in the way the garden looks, inside and out.

Pear tree #1, a Jeanne d’Arc pear, is now planted. Right now it’s 3 meters tall, but fully grown, it will be 4-6 meters (13-20 ft). I’m hoping it’ll provide some shade and privacy to the front patio and to mom’s bedroom window. Tomorrow, I’ll plant the Conference pear by the roses near the gate.

A girl and her stuffie. Construction workers are at the end of our street with backhoes and other equipment, and they left a trailer in front of our neighbor’s house. Mona doesn’t trust them, and she brought her stuffie for moral support while she woofs in disapproval.

So excited! Our arching trellis arrived today, and mom and I got it put together and put in place right away. Yesterday, we bought a wisteria vine which is going to be planted so it can climb up the trellis and make a shady, pretty main entrance to our garden.

What are these two bands in the sky?
The more commonly seen band is on the left and is the central band of our Milky Way galaxy. Our Sun orbits in the disk of this spiral galaxy so that from inside, it appears as a band of comparable brightness all the way around the sky.
The less commonly seen band, on the right, is zodiacal light -- sunlight reflected from dust orbiting the Sun in our Solar System. Zodiacal light is brightest near the Sun and so is best seen just before sunrise or just after sunset. On some evenings, this ribbon of zodiacal light can appear quite prominent. It was discovered only in this century that zodiacal dust was mostly expelled by comets that have passed near Jupiter. The featured image was captured about a year ago from the Atacama Desert in Chile.

Today in the garden, a tale of two cucumbers, a butternut squash with a jaunty flower hat, and competing zucchinis.

Mutt and Jeff cucumbers, a small egg shaped one on the left beside a longish cucumber on the right. Pretty sure the little one will be bitter, but I’d love to be wrong.

A developing butternut squash about as long as my index finger, its large flower still attached and opening to the sun.

In spite of the heat, two zucchini on opposite sides of the plant are growing with more flowers opening all around the plant.
