136th read: Disasterama!: Adventures in the Queer Underground 1977 to 1997 by Alvin Orloff An immensely readable story of friendship, art, & gay sex in San Francisco. While he's open about not being an activist, the art he & Diet made is the joyous stuff we live for & matters. 4/5 stars #Memoir

135th read: Slayers, Every One of Us: How One Girl in All the World Showed Us How to Hold On by Jenny Owen Youngs & Kristin Russo 🎧 I kept asking: who's the audience? I’m unsure whether a non-podcast listener would be interested, & as a listener, I got everything from the show. 3/5 stars #Booksky
Book cover for Slayers, Every One of Us: How One Girl in All the World Showed Us How to Hold On by Jenny Owen Youngs & Kristin Russo

134th read: And The Crowd Went Wild (Chicago Stars #11) by Susan Elizabeth Phillips SEP’s character work makes Dancy & Clint extremely charming & lovable. Her arc was solid, but he could’ve used more. She had sparkling, loud problems, with his simmering in the back. 3/5 stars #Booksky #Romcom

133rd read: Late Eclipses (October Daye #4) by Seanan McGuire My favorite in this series so far. October finally realizes how she fits in & seems to learn that she needs others. A good mini culmination of plots & themes, allowing for a level-up & world realignment. 4/5 stars #Booksky #Fantasy
Book cover for Late Eclipses (October Daye #4) by Seanan McGuire

The cover features a photo of a white woman (October) with shoulder-length brown hair wearing a medieval-style deep red dress with gold brocade at the top and around the middle. She wears a black leather coat over it and carries a sword in one hand. She walks through the woods at night, with a gnarled tree and colorful fallen leaves in the background.

132nd read: The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon An incredibly 2016 book that, 10 years later, feels like a time capsule. I loved the YA romance of it all, but not necessarily how everything else was executed. 3/5 stars #Booksky #YABooks #Romancelandia
Book cover for The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon

The cover has a white background with incredible, gorgeous string art in oranges, pinks, and purples, and the title appears in the recesses of the string.

There were DC protests. There were not nation-wide ones like women's march 1 and 2 during Trump's first inauguration. There were no work stoppages. It didn't break containment. My Trump mother (pro choice) screamed at me when I informed her Trump's judges did Dobbs 2 years later.

Theo @theokane.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
We were done when Dobbs leaked and no one did anything. No massive protests, no politicans trying to change anything, just rolling over and accepting the Heritage Foundation's version of reality.

131st read: Trial of the Amazons by various creators Ultimately all over the place because so many creators are working on it, and there are so many characters. The plot itself is pretty straightforward: close the Doors of Doom and solve Hippolyta's murder. 3/5 stars #Booksky #Comics #WonderWoman
Book cover for Trial of the Amazons by Becky Cloonan, Michael Conrad, Stephanie Williams, Vita Ayala, Joëlle Jones, Jordie Bellaire, Laura Braga, Elena Caagrande, Rosi Kampe, Paulina Ganucheau, Alitha E. Martinez, Adriana Melo, Mark Morales, Skylar Patridge, Tamra Bonvillain, Kendall Goode, Romulo Fajardo Jr., Marissa Louise, Pat Brousseau, and Becca Carey

The cover is from issue #1, not the trade paperback, but it's the same art. Image is an illustration of Wonder Woman in the middle, holding a spear and wearing a long red cape in addition to her regular costume. You can see the faces shown in the cape of the other Amazons: Nubia, Artemis, and Yara. Behind Diana, Amazons fight each other in battle gear in a large Greek-style stadium. Hippolyta and Nubia are on one side, and Yara and Artemis are on the other.

129th read: Nubia & The Amazons by Alitha E. Martinez, Stephanie Williams, Vita Ayala, Mark Morales I liked the story beats & Nubia as a different leader than Hippolyta. The feminist forgiveness of Medusa worked well for me. The art & layouts were lovely. 3/5 stars #Comics #Booksky #WonderWoman
Book cover for Nubia & The Amazons (collects #1-6) by Alitha E. Martinez, Stephanie Williams, Vita Ayala, Mark Morales

Features an illustration of Nubia. She's wearing blue and gold Amazon gear, similar to Diana's. A large lion face is on her shoulder, and she's pointing a spear downward like she's ready to strike. She's a curvy Black woman with long, naturally curly hair. She has a fur cape. Behind her are Themyscira's buildings that seem damaged and have smoke coming from them.

I'm currently reading a PDF of a friend's finished, but unpublished novel. Not only would uploading the PDF to any AI be a violation of his trust and copyright infringement, but would defeat the purpose of reading. In general, I love to read and research, so would also defeat what I love to do.

128th read: Wonder Woman Vol. 2: Through a Glass Darkly by various creators This felt like placeholders waiting for the Trial of the Amazons, and while I'm not sure what the trade collected, the backup stories about the Bana-Mighdall were so much more interesting. 3/5 stars #Comics #WonderWoman
Book cover for Wonder Woman Vol. 2: Through a Glass Darkly (collects Wonder Woman #780-784; Wonder Woman 2021 Annual #1; and a story from Wonder Woman 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular #1) by Becky Cloonan, Michael W. Conrad, Marcio Takara, Andy MacDonald, Travis Moore, Jim Cheung, Steve Pugh, Tamra Bonvillain, Nick Filardi, Marcelo Maiolo, Vita Ayala, Skylar, Patridge, Romulo Fajardo Jr, Becca Carey, and Pat Brusseau

Features an illustration of Wonder Woman flying in space. She wears her traditional costume, with her lasso hooked on her belt. One arm is forward and the other bent, as if she might be punching someone in space. Behind her, Earth orbits in space.

127th read: Girlfriends by Emily Zhou Very lived-in, specific short stories about young trans women seeking love, affection, and validation. Parts reminded me deeply of being that age, around or after college graduation, and finding your "adult" footing without experience. 4/5 stars #Booksky
Book cover for Girlfriends by Emily Zhou

Features a painting of a young white woman's very messy apartment full of shopping bags, a nightstand crammed with everything, nothing on the walls, and a mattress on the floor. She is standing naked on the bed, and you can see half of her body, but not her face.

Cover features an illustration of a white woman with long blonde hair. She's wearing a white, knee-length, short-sleeved dress with black outlines of flowers and green shoes with white bows. That would be so incredible. I'd love something like that to have suggestions for "so you've never read Lorde, start here" or "you've read XYZ from Morrison, here's where to do next" or "so you've read all their traditional published stuff, here's other things or other authors to discover."

What I hate about so many current popular cishet white romances. They're narratively written as a "blank" white lady (with 2 lovable quirks!) so you can see yourself as her. They employe present tense & 1st person POV to crank this up. Many are incredibly dull & shallower than a single rain drop.
