Bots are such a waste of energy and resources. The little red stop sign on each of these table rows indicates that these 300 "Guests" are seeing Access Denied pages.

ninhotline @theninhotline.com · 27/09/2026

Another quick ETS update: I've disabled viewing the site as a guest, and disabled the ability to register for a new account. I'll turn that back on sometime next week, but I'm tired of bots probing the forums. If you need another reason to complain about AI... forum.vbulletin.com/forum/vbclou...

You think I've got .env files? I've got MySQL credentials in plain text PHP, but in a weird-ass folder. AWS? Cute! Python settings? Kubernetes? Sir this isn't even a Wendy's, it's a hot dog stand I'm running.

ninhotline @theninhotline.com · 26/09/2026

In case anyone out there thinks that AI bots are anything but malicious traffic, look no further than the things they keep trying to find on the server that hosts the forum. It's funny to me how renaming a few default folders inoculates me from most attacks on the server.

I'm kind of impressed at how quickly they route around these rules. The "Linux" traffic eventually stopped (see attached), and now there's a spike from Singapore. Anyway, Linux is allowed again 🤘

ninhotline @theninhotline.com · 25/09/2026

I made the leap to a Macbook about three years ago, mostly because Windows 11 wouldn't jibe with my old desktop. The only applications that didn't make the leap were mostly games for me, so it wasn't too painful. Sucks that you're tethered, but surely one day you'll break free ✊

ninhotline @theninhotline.com · 25/09/2026

Well I can't go blocking YOU, dude. If ETS stopped working for you today, I'll have it unblocked tomorrow. Trying a few things to try and isolate the bad actor here.

If you were using Linux to browse Echoing the Sound, hopefully you will find this message and let me know.

ninhotline @theninhotline.com · 24/09/2026

The motherfucking bots are slamming ETS again. There's no way half our traffic comes from Linux users.

I don't need another copy of The Fragile on vinyl, but if you know someone who'd appreciate a copy, now's a good time to grab one from Amazon. They're $28, as low a price as they've been since COVID shut the country down amzn.to/4x49Ovn

If you bought two hundred copies of the record at this price, you'll still have spent less than what this eBay auction is asking - this copy is signed by Trent, Atticus, and Jeff Bridges, and is priced at $3,200. I just saw a reel of a young man doing a thing called “What’s on Grandpa’s Turntable” - & he reviewed the album the Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails. I’m just going to lay here and turn into dust now.

All the same, Trent's current management hasn't reacted to this at all - so maybe that's tacit approval. Should I start announcing these things when I see them? Is that something you'd be interested in?

ninhotline @theninhotline.com · 15/06/2026

Manufacturing records and CDs with Trent's music and related artwork, and then selling them without the consent of the people who created that music and artwork? That doesn't sit right with me - not just because I'm thinking about landfill and consumerism. I believe that an artist deserves agency.

ninhotline @theninhotline.com · 15/06/2026

I remember getting the Demos & Remixes CD in the mail after buying it either from Goldmine magazine. Bootleg CDs of concerts were super expensive, with terrible artwork. ninlive.com made bootleg CDs redundant. NIN/TR is more prolific than ever.

For the last few years, someone's been selling CDRs of unreleased music by Trent Reznor - for a lot of money. Other people have started manufacturing and selling physical media for leaked audio and digital/vinyl-only official releases, claiming to be filling a gap in the market. It's kinda gross

"texture: flowers 004" in print. A new piece I created in homage to my art for NIN's "Things Falling Apart." I used a black mist filter and toy macro lens adapter on my 50mm f/1.4 to achieve a dreamy lo-fi look in-camera. Only 8 of these left (thank you!) at robsheridan.storenvy.com/collections/...

I am struggling for the correct words to convey to you just how hard the new Nine Inch Nails album goes. It's a remix collaboration with Boys Noize, and it's a dance-oriented blend of 'studio' recording and the live Coachella performance from Saturday. The singing is strong, the music is slammin'

If X is where you can see the latest posts from a community that is important to you, it is well past time for you to be willing to sacrifice seeing all of that stuff for a little while, and put work into bringing it here (or to a forum, or Discord, whatever). Fandoms will go where people go.

Yeah, if your fandom is still on Twitter, you need to talk to your fandom. There is nothing that website provides that is worth what you’re contributing to by using it AND how it is impacting your thinking in ways you probably don’t even realize (there is research on this now).

ninhotline @theninhotline.com · 17/03/2026

ETS was running slow today, so I checked Cloudflare, and here you can see where the bots figured their way around the "Bot Challenge" protection a few hours ago. OH WELL. Human verification for everyone again! I'll revisit tuning this another time. My focus is on improving the mobile experience.
