I laugh when ppl ask why I stopped my parenting groups. The answer: I’ve been radicalized. Folks would think I’m insane if I shared all of my parenting beliefs. When I say I parent through the lens of liberation, I mean it. I’m not trying to be colonizer in my own home.

Adults are laughing at children having a literacy problem when they are the reason is insane. Everything from the literacy crisis to how children communicate their needs is on us. They do not develop in some bubble outside of society. They learn and grow within systems.

My 11yo enjoys shared reading. My husband discovered a way to make it fun because he’s unserious (the creative parent). He sets the kitchen up like a livestream. He reads a chapter, then my son reads a chapter. Then they discuss the chapters together. My son really enjoys it.
