Reposted by Glory TurnbullSam Langford @samsighs.bsky.social · 02/12/2024Sam's Advent Calendar of Awesome People! Everyday until Christmas, I'm going to highlight someone I think deserves your love and appreciation! Its Day 2, so let's do two folks as I was busy yesterday! Let me introduce you to @drtalksalot.bsky.social & @sciwithrach.bsky.social 68119
Glory Turnbull @themonstrumologist.bsky.social · 02/12/2024Unfortunately I have a zero tolerance policy for people who shill Harry Potter products and content. After everything, your allegiance to nostalgia still outweighs your allegiance to trans+ people? Sorry not sorry. 000
Glory Turnbull @themonstrumologist.bsky.social · 01/12/2024I will have to drag my northern in laws over to the Manchester transport museum : )) 010
Glory Turnbull @themonstrumologist.bsky.social · 01/12/2024Desperately jealous of locals who can take FREE HERITAGE BUS RIDES! 020

Glory Turnbull @themonstrumologist.bsky.social · 25/11/2024I LOVE THESE. Let me add this adorable orange tip that was digitized during the iCollections project. Here they are! And here's "A History of Shropshire" which features a snippet about this exact specimen. Famous! 1166
Glory Turnbull @themonstrumologist.bsky.social · 25/11/2024Also may post about burnout recovery on here. Working at a big national museum is perhaps the greatest thing that's ever happened to me, but because I feel so lucky and grateful I have pushed myself too far. (Multiple times, habitually.) And folks, no job is worth your life. 030
Glory Turnbull @themonstrumologist.bsky.social · 25/11/2024Woah hello new followers! Welcome! Right now I'm taking some time off work due to stress (😬🤒), but hopefully when I get back I'll have plenty of sick Leps to share with you all. To tide you over, here is a little elephant hawkmoth caterpillar I saw a couple months ago. 061

Glory Turnbull @themonstrumologist.bsky.social · 17/11/2024When I get more followers I'll do an actual introduction post but until then just know I'm doing cool stuff at the NHM, and banging on the walls of the GMT time zone yearning to be awake when all my Americans are posting 020
Reposted by Glory TurnbullGeorge Takei @georgetakei.bsky.social · 17/11/2024I would like to speak up today for the trans community. You see, I know a bit of what it’s like to be politically scapegoated. When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941, suddenly anyone in America who had any amount of Japanese ancestry became suspect. Politicians preyed upon ignorance and fear. /1 795419239456

Glory Turnbull @themonstrumologist.bsky.social · 15/11/2024Some collectors used to run experiments on cocoons by exposing them to high heat or cold to create interesting colour morphs. But these interesting little fellows? They're a little different from their peers, but perfectly natural. Happy Trans Awareness week 🏳️⚧️🤍🩷🩵 040
Glory Turnbull @themonstrumologist.bsky.social · 15/11/2024Well, thanks to the Biodiversity Heritage Library, here's the original publication, free for us to read. I was quite surprised to find that these aberrations may be naturally occurring. 100
Glory Turnbull @themonstrumologist.bsky.social · 15/11/2024Enter: Bizarre cinnabar moth aberrations. These guys are almost entirely red or peach, perfect for making a trans flag out of leps! Most aberrations are nonsense, so I was very curious about these here, as they are all from RW Watson's collection. Surely he published these? 110
Glory Turnbull @themonstrumologist.bsky.social · 15/11/2024My next stop? How about a red moth that I can desaturate a little bit. That leaves mostly burnet moths and cinnabar moths. My predicament? These little fellows are more black than red. (OR SO I THOUGHT!) 100
Glory Turnbull @themonstrumologist.bsky.social · 15/11/2024Now, the UK does not really have pink butterflies or moths. They're very uncommon anywhere, and our closest creature is the small elephant hawk moth. Kinda pink, kinda not. Very pointy shaped. 100
Glory Turnbull @themonstrumologist.bsky.social · 15/11/2024Okay, so I'm writing something for my staff intranet for Trans Awareness week and made up this image to go along with it, using images from our digitised collections. I discovered a strange little story in my hunt for pink lepidoptera...🧵 #digitalcollections #lepidoptera #naturalhistory 153
