Unfortunately I have a zero tolerance policy for people who shill Harry Potter products and content. After everything, your allegiance to nostalgia still outweighs your allegiance to trans+ people? Sorry not sorry.

I LOVE THESE. Let me add this adorable orange tip that was digitized during the iCollections project. Here they are! And here's "A History of Shropshire" which features a snippet about this exact specimen. Famous!

Screenshotted text that reads: "ab. androgyna, Newnham. On 23 May, 1888, I caught a splendid ab. of this species, in which the right wings are those of the female, while the left ones offer the coloration of the male. The larva is very common about Church Stretton in July on various wild cruciferae, such as Cardamines pratensis, Hesperia matronalis, but especially on Sisymbrium officinale so common along our hedges, and the yellowish pyramidal ova are often met with on the underside of the calyx in June."

Bilateral gynandromorphic orange tip with labels that read "Crabtree Sale" "Church Stretton, Taken by F.B. Newnham, 23-v-1888." The specimen is a bit yellowed and dusty, but exceedingly lovely.

Also may post about burnout recovery on here. Working at a big national museum is perhaps the greatest thing that's ever happened to me, but because I feel so lucky and grateful I have pushed myself too far. (Multiple times, habitually.) And folks, no job is worth your life.

Woah hello new followers! Welcome! Right now I'm taking some time off work due to stress (😬🤒), but hopefully when I get back I'll have plenty of sick Leps to share with you all. To tide you over, here is a little elephant hawkmoth caterpillar I saw a couple months ago.

Small brown elephant hawkmoth caterpillar with its head raised, sitting on a green, leafy plant with purple flowers. Maybe a willowherb?

When I get more followers I'll do an actual introduction post but until then just know I'm doing cool stuff at the NHM, and banging on the walls of the GMT time zone yearning to be awake when all my Americans are posting

I would like to speak up today for the trans community. You see, I know a bit of what it’s like to be politically scapegoated. When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941, suddenly anyone in America who had any amount of Japanese ancestry became suspect. Politicians preyed upon ignorance and fear. /1

Posting this again because a lot of people said they found it helpful! Guide to ALT text: www.perkins.org/resource/how...

ALT text copied and pasted from the linked website: An infographic titled “How To Write Alt Text” featuring a photo of a capybara. Parts of alt text are divided by color, including identify who, expression, description, colour, and interesting features. The finished description reads “A capybara looking relaxed in a hot spa. Yellow yuzu fruits are floating in the water, and one is balanced on the top of the capybara’s head.”

No luck with the slime moulds but plenty of fungus about. Highlights:

White mushrooms on the end of a log, forming a wavy pattern

Small orange dots of fungus on the side of a fallen log

Small black balls of fungus on the side of a fallen log

Okay, so I'm writing something for my staff intranet for Trans Awareness week and made up this image to go along with it, using images from our digitised collections. I discovered a strange little story in my hunt for pink lepidoptera...🧵 #digitalcollections #lepidoptera #naturalhistory
