Fascinating study in the U.K. that showed that "individuals who regularly read right-leaning tabloids – which more frequently feature negative coverage of autism – tended to display more negative automatic responses towards autism." journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10....

Newspapers tend to focus on autistic challenges, not autistic strengths. This kind of reporting—especially in some tabloids and right-leaning newspapers—can reinforce negative stereotypes, making it harder to build a more inclusive society for Autistic people: journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

I’m lucky to have a garden office/shed/cave. When I work from there, Exponential the Cat often knocks on the door, then dashes to the house to wait for me to follow and let her in. Isn't that second-order Theory of Mind? #ToM #cat

Really interesting paper on gender disparities in autism coverage in British newspapers. Grim finding: a significant subset of the "autistic girls" articles were about gender transition and misgendered those involved. Which also means there's *even less* coverage of autistic girls than it appears.

Articles on autism are usually negative, and specifically, are sh***y in depictions of autistic people. So, "Autistic people should be involved in guiding newspapers to more inclusive coverage, & it is crucial that newspapers respect the community's language preferences." phys.org/news/2024-08...

Interesting paper (open access) looking in detail at autistic representation - including the differences between how boys and girls (or mothers/fathers) are portrayed (eg girls more likely to be shown as part of a group, not an individual, and mainly in discussing gender difference).
