If government worked with the Bank of England on a nationwide scheme to rollout out home solar power, backed by low-interest loans at 2%, the average eligible household could save £250 a year, even while paying back their loan. 3/3 Read more here: neweconomics.org/2026/07/fina...

Imagine being able to power your home on this summer's sunshine. ☀️ But right now solar panels are too expensive for most households. The Solar Saver scheme proposed by @neweconomics.bsky.social and @thefinancelab.bsky.social wants to make clean energy affordable for everyone. 1/3

'Too often it's those with the least who end up paying the most'. There is real potential to use the Financial Services Bill to drive big changes in financial services. We're excited to work with peers, and our allies in civil society and industry to make sure the opportunity doesn't pass us by.

Nearly 9 in 10 people in the UK want the government to take economic crime more seriously. They’re right to. New research shows at least £325 billion in money linked to corruption, tax dodging and organised crime flows through the UK every year. tinyurl.com/5n88krdn

Even after the UK phased out coal power, pension schemes are still financing coal overseas. This risks savers’ money and the climate — which is why peers are calling for stronger Government action via the Pension Schemes Bill. 👉 filab.uk/4rUMbU1

UK pension funds are still financing coal expansion abroad — despite the UK phasing out coal at home. “It is absurd that our pension funds continue to finance its expansion overseas.” Our new briefing shows why it’s time to divest. 👉 filab.uk/3O07Qvn

More than £10.5bn of UK pension savings are invested in thermal coal - the world’s dirtiest fossil fuel. That’s bad for pension savers, the economy, and the climate. Read our new research with LINGO Initiative. filab.uk/3ZNdX8O

Big moment for fair finance. Gareth Thomas MP’s Ten Minute Rule Bill for a Fair Banking Act has passed. It would rate banks on equitable access to credit and push real support for underserved communities and SMEs @gareththomasmp.bsky.social @fbfacampaign.bsky.social #FairBankingForAll

Why are our pensions being used to fund fossil fuels and deforestation to the tune of billions of pounds, threatening our prosperity in older age and indeed our savings? Today @annagelderdmp.bsky.social‬ rightly asked the government what the new Pension Schemes Bill would do to change this.

Our response to the government’s pension plans announced this week ⬇️
Quote in white on grey background saying: “This is basically oversold: the money that is being 'unlocked' is already being invested by pension funds - all that happens now is companies have greater flexibility to use it for other purposes, which don't necessarily include investment. Far greater ambition is needed to tackle the real pensions crisis:  the majority of the population are saving so little they are looking forward to miserable retirements. This is why the government is right to promise the biggest reform of pensions for nearly 20 years, and why we need that reform to be ambitious. Pension savers are also facing an uncertain future because of the climate and nature crises, but the government is yet to say how its reforms will support greater investment in the green industries of the future. ”

The Chancellor has postponed a vital review of the UK’s broken pensions system. www.ft.com/content/d102... Our Head of Advocacy, @marloesnicholls.bsky.social, responds ⬇️
White text on a grey background: It's extremely worrying that the Chancellor appears to be stepping back from Labour's promise to fix the UK's broken pensions system.
As things stand, millions of us are going to be facing poverty in retirement. The Pensions Review is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to stop the UK from sleepwalking into this crisis. There will never be an easy time to overhaul the system, but kicking the can down the road now is simply irresponsible.
