Maybe some younger folks don’t remember the dark days when homosexuality was classified as a mental illness and used to keep gay people out of work. You could be legally fired for being gay! Let’s be real they’re using “furry” as a visibly queer subculture as a stand-in for queerness at large. Their goal has been to remove queer people from public life, and they’re testing different vectors to do so. Hence the all caps “MENTALLY ILL,” which is how they want to reclassify all queers
