The Davids think @thejesuslizard.bsky.social last record was among theit best. Grind was maybe the song that got played the most when we took the record home. It fits pretty well with this anti-fascist cartoon by Lev Atamanov, We Can Do It (1970).

If you heard the shameful news last year about the banning of the graphic novel Maus in Tennessee recently, you may still not have been prepared for word of NPR censoring the new documentary Disaster is My Muse on public broadcast. Watch it on Kanopy while you still can.

Art Spiegelman poster for Disaster is My Muse. Art sits at his drafting table with a cigarette and a five o' clock shadow. Outside his window, we see horrific inevitabilities. Those who describe such inevitabilities are surely flagged somehow. If you've read Maus/the news, you'll get the general idea.

The Davids have a soft spot for the earliest incarnations of The Modern Dance (1977) songs. Play The Hearpen Singles (1978) if you're unfamiliar. The track is paired here with animation from The Phoenix Bird (1968) by Sabin Balasa. #PereUbu #DavidThomas #ProtoPunk #PostPunk #Noise #AvanteGarage

I Know Catherine, The Log Lady will play at the Laemmle Glendale theater today. The movie was an important highlight of the recent David Lynch Retrospective in Chicago, and must be seen for its incredible assemblage of stories from Catherine's life and The Log Lady's legacy.

For those in CA, @logladyfilm.bsky.social will be screened on Mother's Day. The movie is a lovely and full document that capitulates with the story of the late actress's transcendant final appearance in The Return. It's a beautiful experience that deserves to be shared.

Here's a preview of The Davids latest zine made in preparation for Cronenberg's latest movie The Shrouds. The maestro will be in Chicago for two Q&As at The Music Box Theatre this weekend. Chances are that talk will raise more questions than answers. In turn, The Davids will offer him our kisses.

text for first two pages of new Cronenberg zine:
From tattoos on Viggo Mortensen to va- hee hees in the middle of that asshole James Woods, to assholes on talking bugs, the bodies present in David Cronenberg's body of work will continue to tell interesting stories long after he stopped telling them. This is particularly the case with David's works that have come out since his 78th birthday. Birth and death and fucking loom large in any artist story, but rarely are the effects of disease on the body woven so well into an artists' concluding statements as they seem to be in David's work made while COVID started working its way onto movie sets. In 2025, The Davids will release a series discussing performance art, chronic pain, extreme levels of pain tolerance, and a new source of disability becoming a wellspring for hot button issues surrounding shadowing forces of ignorance, chaos, and murder. (I.E. typical Cronenberg, typical North American zeitgeist) That episode will also be about sex --not sex of a remotely reproductive nature, but sex that entails most if not all of those elements previously mentioned.
