Seriously: Hate Digger all you want, but [pauses for flow of hate] movies like Digger are why we need studios. A world in which Digger doesn't get made one in which Sinners and One Battle also don't get made. You miss with Heaven's Gate and you still swung. You miss with Paw Patrol and you >

will get old and die waiting for someone to say "At least you tried." When I worked at EW, I used to say that our five worst selling covers of the year should be the five stories we most believed in. Because when you pander and sell badly, you accomplish nothing. Same is true in movies, I think. >

Anyway, a movie culture without the possibility of insane overpriced whiffs will be a less healthy movie culture, and I'll eat these words the day that I can say that David Ellison has taken at least three big creative gambles, but I'm not holding my breath. x

Just like the Colleen Hoover novel it's based off, 'Verity' feels like a cheap book you pick up at an airport. Trash-tacular, enjoyable nonsense. Mother Anne as usual elevates the increasingly outrageous events. Read my full review @thecurbau.bsky.social www.thecurb.com.au/verity-showa...

Verity knows it’s not high art and revels in camp
The star-studded thriller about two authors caught in a precarious entanglement is funny in all the wrong ways. And you know what? That might not be a bad thing.

I was thinking about flavoured jelly beans last night. Aldi had a limited run of dominion jelly beans which were Jelly Belly-esque. Excellent for some who loves jelly beans and hates transphobes. But now they've gone and all I'm left with is regular jelly beans. They're fine, but basic flavours.

Another Australian creative using AI to share a story about a poetry competition. The prose is enough. The image detracts from the sentiment. But the algorithm craves images and rejects text. So here we are.
David Williamson post on Facebook.

My son Matt is an assistant principal at Elevation High school in Melbourne. The Principal Colin Burke initiated a writing competition some years back for all ages in poetry, prose and script categories. There are cash prizes but even more importantly the winners work is handsomely published which is a great thrill for the young talent. Congrats Colin. One of the poetry entrants who didn't make the cut but I think shows great promise penned the following which I guess could be called a plea for divine intervention.

"Little baby Jesus,
I hope you're listening now
My father is a bastard
My mother is a cow
I didn't ask to be alive
But now that I am here
I really need your help mate
So get your arse into gear."

Underneath is an AI image of a boy in a rundown shack with a pencil and pad at his hand. He's cold.

the Curb is getting into concrete it seems.
Hi there,

We partner with Smith's to place one local business on an exclusive wellness kiosk at the store entrance — full color, 5 and a half feet tall, seen by the same people who live and shop within a few miles of you.

Right now there's no concrete contractor featured in your area. Noticed your 4.5 rating and thought you'd be a strong fit.

Want me to show you what it looks like?

Respectfully,

Hearing The Fox is good, but I can't help but anticipate it failing at the domestic box office when it arrives in November. First screened at Adelaide Film Festival in 2025, screened in pretty much every state festival since then, only to screen again at AFF this year before it's even been released.

'Heart of the Beast' might not win any awards for originality, but Uber the dog deserves all the praise for his brave and obedient performance as Odin. Brad Pitt’s bond with his canine companion makes for a perfectly fine watch 🎬🐕 Review @thecurbau.bsky.social www.thecurb.com.au/heart-of-the...

Heart of the Beast is a simple and touching ode to the animals that stand by us
With striking imagery, a functional-enough story, and an award worthy performance from Uber the dog, it might just be David Ayer’s most inoffensive and emotionally arresting film.
