today's the first anniversary of our mom's death. While she was in terminal delirium she called 911 believing that a family member was burning up in the fireplace. So that's the last time the cops stomped through and I thank my stars I wasn't here, I came later that morning and got her into hospice.

You can't actually make cops, firefighters, EMTs and utilities workers take their shoes off. Of course I ask people to take their shoes off at the door because it's civilized but even if I was cleaning my own floors those would be my rules.

I ask visitors at the door to declare a health condition which forces them to wear shoes for mobility and my uncle's best friend was very apologetic and self-disclosed. He kept his shoes. Since the cleaning specialist is working, she wears shoes for safety. Tradespeople keep their shoes.
