After being held in two of them as a boy, I fought for decades urging America to never again build concentration camps and put human beings in them. It breaks my heart to watch this happen twice now in my own lifetime.

ON ATTEMPTED ENTRY INTO THE ECUADORIAN CONSULATE IN MINNEAPOLIS BY ICE AGENTS

This morning, the Consul of Ecuador in Minneapolis reported that, at approximately 11:00 a.m., an agent from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) attempted to enter the Consulate premises.

Consulate officials immediately prevented the ICE officer from entering the consular building, thus ensuring the protection of the Ecuadorians who were present at the time and activating the emergency protocols issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility

For the reasons stated above, the Minister of Foreign Affairs immediately presented a note of protest to the Embassy of the United States in Ecuador so that acts of this nature are not repeated in any of Ecuador's consular offices in the United States.

We have prepared a letter that you can send via email and snail mail. We recommend sending a physical letter in addition to email as it has a bigger impact, requiring office staff to open it and log it. It’s much harder to ignore.

We are specifically asking the committee to investigate whether these contracts follow Canadian law, whether the businesses are acting ethically, and to call the CEOs before the committee to be questioned. All of this is within the mandate of the committee.
