Imagining a world where the GOP loses Texas and wins in Minnesota and Michigan

Oh, this fun guy
You can't protest peacefully. You can't boycott.
You can't hunger strike. You can't hijack planes.
You can't block traffic. You can't throw Molotovs. You can't self-immolate. You can't heckle politicians. You can't march. You can't riot. You can't dissent. You just can't be.

Not fucking good. The days of being the big dense city that was still affordable are (hopefully temporarily) in the past.

I’m not even sure it’s ‘slowly’ at this point. 10 years ago YIMBYs were heretics within the party, now when I look at platform pages for the major Chicago mayoral candidates almost all of them emphasize building dramatically more housing in the top bullet points.

Texas has an even more fucked up version of this. The top x% get automatic admission to UT Austin, so some parents will send their kids to a crappy school for the last two years of high school to inflate their class ranking.

I’ve always noticed that these folks in NYC have the biggest hate boner for Midwesterners. 1. What the fuck did we do? 2. When I think of areas of the country that inflict legions of insufferable trust fund kids on other places, the Midwest is not what comes to mind.

A big part of maturing in your practical politics is realizing your exact views will never be an absolute majority, you’re always just part of a coalition. In America that coalition is the Democratic Party, our PR-style niche parties are the factions, and our popular front is VBNMW.

Samurai seem less intimidating when you realize the average one was 5’4. Yasuke, btw, was like 6’2, seeing him must have been like seeing your governor chilling with a Na’vi from Avatar.

No, no, I agree with you, that post was full sarcasm. A Paxton victory would be evidence that being actively anti-trans is helpful in Texas, not harmful.

Well, no, you see if the Democrats lose that doesn’t necessarily mean the Republicans win. Maybe the state says the election wasn’t legitimate so they just won’t have a senator for 6 years. Maybe PSL will win! Maybe The Revolution will happen!

Retreating soldiers aren’t hors de combat, you don’t have to be actively shooting at your enemy to be a legitimate target. If you did then every IDF soldier who was the subject of a 🔻 video while they were chilling was the victim of a war crime.

DHS’s social media is almost certainly run by a Zoomer groyper. Most of their tweets contain not only the obvious racism but little nods to in-jokes among the global far right.

Hey, he could also cum in a fluffer. One of the guys who came in a fluffer later married said fluffer and they have a kid now (the kid was not conceived during the gangbang). Give up equity but get married to a freak ? Maybe a good trade if that’s your thing, all sorts of folks in the world.

It’s such a baffling strategy. If Trump were a Palestine supporter and the Palestine voters chose to be single-issue about that then I wouldn’t like it but I’d at least understand it. A protest nonvote to benefit a guy who’s even more (whatever you oppose) makes no damn sense.

I wonder if maybe he only sees affordability as home prices rather than rent. Maybe his local market is doing the stupid thing some markets do where the cost to buy completely detaches from the potential rent income (i.e. Toronto disease).

ALSO thinks it’s the height of injustice if grandma’s home doesn’t pass, with a stepped-up basis of course, tax- and penalty-free to her heirs (so they can sell it). Libertarianism with socialist aesthetics.

I’m actually broadly a fan of a policy of letting seniors go into arrears on their property taxes and then just covering the debt with a low interest rate if they sell it or die, but essentially every one of these ‘grandma is gonna get thrown out of her ($1MM+) home by the mean government’ people

Terry Crows @terrycrows.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
As a heads-up, if this country has a successful revolution, the government that replaces the current one will be liberal. A country where Trump won the popular vote just two years ago and the DSA has 120,000 members isn’t one where people are charging the machine guns for Marx

Is the family that is renting after they sold the house better off than the family that is renting and didn’t have a house?
1100
Terry Crows @terrycrows.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
If I don’t own a home, I pay rent. If I own a million dollar home and sell it without buying a new home, I also rent, but I also have a million dollars. That makes me one million dollars better off than the renter (assuming other financial conditions are similar). That’s wealth.

The company doesn’t get a deduction for that, the only way they could is if they claimed the money as income which would defeat the purpose. If you want to claim it on your taxes (if you itemize) just keep a copy of the receipt and list it as a contribution at tax time.

The US military budget is about $1T. Our total healthcare expenditures alone are about $5T. Even if you could cut that in half and also just not have a military anymore, that still wouldn’t cover healthcare. We’re not even into housing, education, etc.

It’s like the Sanders campaigns (which for the record I backed) assuming a large mass of sympathetic nonvoters who could be mobilized. If it doesn’t show up, maybe that indicates it wasn’t properly mobilized, but probably it indicates that it doesn’t exist.

This is the whole Stancil debate summed up. If you believe 60% are in abject poverty and the electorate votes like it’s more like 25%, how could you possibly build a winning political strategy?

I went behind my apartment in Chicago this evening, away from the cars and ventilation so the only real noise was the cicadas and the river and got up to like 61dB

Found this picture of you guys. Right outside my door is 65-67, then I walked behind the building, away from the fountain and AC and cars where it’s mostly just cicadas and the river and that’s like 60.

Executive comp in a lot of cases is very similar to politician pay in that people think it’s a lot more material than it is. There are overpaid examples of both but like we could cut the president and congress’s pay to nothing and it’s not even an hour of interest on the national debt.

Some surely does. The “be a strawman bank account for these GFMs and split your transfers up into smaller amounts” stuff probably mostly did because they’re worried about AML/CFT stuff.

Nah, a private banker is like a relationship manager for a bank. If you don’t have an involved relationship with a bank like a professional real estate investor it’s a waste of time. Chase will give you one for $35/mo if you just want to feel like a big shot.

This is a sort of glonzo-adjacent situation. Do helmets really provide much protection for adult cyclists, whose primary danger is cars? No. Do normies believe they matter? If you get hit will people ask if you were wearing one? Yes. We’re not ready to fight this battle yet culturally.
