Keeps me connected (and aware) of mySelf, my values, my goals, my connections beyond myself, all of which make me a better person and a better citizen in this world. It helps me live into the fullness of myself, not holding back because of social conditioning, which I think the world needs more of

Literally meaning 'empty orchestra' in Japanese, the 'oke' borrowed from English 'orchestra', but shortened, as Japanese tends to do with loanwords, and then given back as we know it for the style of singing performance. Language trade in action!

I tried out every possible shortening I could of my birthname over the years, before realising that gender dysphoria was contributing and found a more gender-neutral one. It's still part of my birthname, a nod if you will, and sometimes still feels like it's settling in. But it's mine. Glad I chose

Those who could find a tunnel that has no light at the end of it, and hold it up like a telescope to know the darkness also contains truths that could bring the light to its knees. Grief astronomer, adjust the lens, look close, tell us what you see. (RIP Andrea, what a loss)

Grief Astronomer by Andrea Gibson A difficult life is not less worth living than a gentle one. Joy is simply easier to carry than sorrow. And your heart could lift a city from how long you’ve spent holding what’s been nearly impossible to hold. This world needs those who know how to do that.

I had some travel to visit my father in-law in hospital after surgery, which was a good visit, but my body doesn't respond well to travel and has been migraining since, so lots of gentle knitting time. Kids have started a new schl term, but it's been a rocky start. We persist.

I'm tired. I have serious decision fatigue from trying to plan our new house (with lots of decisions still to be made), and little capacity for all the creative ideas that keep knocking at my brain. Kids are on school holiday and the house is *not* quiet ever, which just adds to the chaos

Turns out I've done a *few* extra raglan increases on my 🧶 tshirt while I haven't been paying attention 😆 Back I go... #knitsky
Photo of some faded denim blue knitting held in a pale hand, with a raglan increase in the centre. One needle at the top of the work on the left, with loose stitches on the right, the other needle a dozen or so rows (who am I kidding, it's sixteen) down, picking up stitches, including stitchmarkers at the raglan increase. In the background, slightly out of focus, is a bright rainbow waves blanket.

The pattern I'm working from is free, called the Bad Idea Blouse, using a cotton yarn on 4mm needles.

The sky today
A photo of the sky, clouds cover it in varying layers, dark in a triangle from lower left to upper right and across. The sun is bright to the middle left, hazy behind the clouds. In the lower part of the photo, silhouetted trees and a couple of roofs line the shot, along with a solitary lamppost. The cloud along the bottom is tinted an orange-ish yellow. A photo of the sky, soft and purple, with rounded purple-tone clouds in the lower half of the photo, underlit with yellow. Silhouetted in the foreground are trees, a lit streetlight, and a trellis fence. A roofline is in the front right, cut off by the edge of the photo. The image feels like soft morning stillness before the start of the day.

I've realised that the meds I've been trying the last 6mths for my migraines are actually doing nothing and it's time to go back to the drawing board with my dr and try something else. So frustrating. When I haven't been migrained though, I have made good progress on projects that need attention.

Photo of a golden-yellow knitted and felted cross-body bag (beltbag) with a chunky black zip and a black clasp on the righthand side. The belt part is made in garter stitch and is adjustable in length. The colour is glorious.

This new pattern is inspired by the Star card, perfect for Matariki and the Winter Solstice. And invites us to ask: 1. Where do we get our nourishment? 2. What futures are we planting seeds for? 3. What are we pouring our love into? #tarotsky #tarottalk #tarotalt #magicalbazaar #tarotspreads
A photo of knitting from the Hope Grows Roots Cowl, overlaid with three labelled card outlines at the top, below are three questions: 1. Where di we get our nourishment? 2. What futures are we planting seeds for? 3. What are we pouring our love into?

The 2-colour version is great for colourwork beginners, with no float management, while the 3-colour version offers a challenge for more experienced knitters. Or add the 3rd colour in duplicate stitch. Varying size options. On Ravelry now, but if that's inaccessible to you, get in touch. 🧶 #knitsky

Clothes continue to fascinate me because what we choose to wear is never ever neutral (even if we think it is - even the idea of neutral colours is not neutral!). Clothes rest against our skin, intimately so. They signal who we are, how we live, and what our worldview is.

Here's the two-colour versions, in fingering & DK weights, #knitsky Less obviously floral in the pattern, but reeeeeaalllllly satisfying to knit, with no floats to catch. 🧶🧶🧶 Calculating yardage today, so getting closer to a complete pattern. Now I just need a haircut so I can take pretty pictures 🤣
How Grows Roots cowls knit in two colours in fingering and DK weight, laying flat, overlapping. On top is the fingering weight made in pale purple and bold pink. Behind lays the DK made in dark green and yellowy green. The cowl design is made up of ribbing at the top and bottom edges, with stranded colourwork between in a repetitive geometric design reminiscent of leaves and postibly suggestive of flowers if done in the right colours. The pattern is by me, Terin Skyweaver, and is being released soon.

Just finished this cowl today, Hope Grows Roots, perfect timing for this week's #ShowMeYourKnits so you can get the blocking mat photo 🧶 It gave me lots of me practice at 3-colour stranded knitting, though there's also a 2-colour version without any float management. 🧶 Pattern coming out soon.
Photo of Hope Grows Roots cowl made in grey, golden brown, and white spread flat and drying on a pale towel. The cowl is a design of ribbing at the top and bottom (grey), and a repetitive geometric design reminiscent of leaves (golden brown) and flowers (white). Two Hope Grows Roots cowls of different sizes and colours. One large and grey/golden brown/white takes up most of the photo. Layered over top in the upper left is a smaller one, made in navy blue/green/pink. The cowls' design is ribbing at the top and bottom with a repetitive geometric design reminiscent of leaves and flowers.

I'm amused by this set, all aces, all reversed. Some thoughts on my pull: 1. Stories of poor self worth 2. Tiny steps count, you don't have to have The Big Idea 3. Where is your spark? That this card has it pointed downwards for this question feels very fitting
Ace of pentacles reversed, ace of swords reversed, ace of torches (wands) reversed, from the Cosmic Slumber Tarot.
In the ace of pentacles, an open pale-skinned hand with a red cuff reaches from the bottom of the card towards a yellow-gold coin inscribed with a pentagram in the centre, in front of a leafy green background. There is a tiny figure to the upper right, peeking out of the leaves.
In the ace of swords, a dark-skinned hand with a blue cuff clutches a sword which dominates the card, in front of a red cloudy background. Perched on the crossbar of the hilt of the sword is a tiny figure dressed in a blue robe.
In the ace of torches, a pale-skinned hand with a dark green cuff comes from the bottom-right, gently clasping a wooden stick with a couple of branching twigs, the top of which is blackened and on fire. The flame is orangey-yellow and red, with whitish smoke rising off the top of the card. Perched on one of the twigs, and clutching the main stick, is a tiny figure dressed in a green robe looking up at the flame. In the background is a purple rocky landscape.
