Am just discovering the term “functional unemployment,” and learning that this is the actual jobs data that we need to be hearing about.

I’m in a conundrum. If I share all the ways I am growing my fine art career, people assume I’m no longer looking for work in animation. And if I post that I AM indeed looking for work, then people lose faith in my fine art career. This is not a zero-sum situation. My talent can span mediums!

Matt was probably one of the most outwardly outspoken, show creator supporters for the color is design campaign before that many people cared about it. He’s a real one.

Visual artists really need to come together and create some sort of PR campaign for themselves in the face of AI because I just witnessed an unreal level of cognitive dissonance when it comes to the acceptance that others have with taking work away from human artists. 🧵

Some people have asked if I’ve left the industry. I would say the industry left me. I still apply to gigs but it’s just been completely dry for 1.5 years. If people are going to pay for my paintings, matching my animation salary, then heck yeah, that’s what you’ll find me doing until things change.

I don’t know what it says about me or the industry, but some of the people most excited to hear about my independent art career have been animation studio heads.

I’m on the tail end of my Uranus opposition that started in the summer of 2024 when I was given the news that I would be laid off from my job. Uranus the planet of independence, really forced me to believe in myself and said, “you got this.” And the story is now ending…

The fact that volunteering is on the decline in the U.S., should be an issue that is taking center stage in every union, especially those that rely on free labor to function. To ignore addressing this reality will only help to disengage members. www.openaccessgovernment.org/article/the-...

The WGA’s statement on ABC’s decision to pull “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

WGA Statement on ABC’s Decision to Pull Jimmy Kimmel Live!

The right to speak our minds and to disagree with each other – to disturb, even – is at the very heart of what it means to be a free people. It is not to be denied. Not by violence, not by the abuse of governmental power, nor by acts of corporate cowardice.

As a Guild, we stand united in opposition to anyone who uses their power and influence to silence the voices of writers, or anyone who speaks in dissent. If free speech applied only to ideas we like, we needn't have bothered to write it into the Constitution. What we have signed on to – painful as it may be at times – is the freeing agreement to disagree.

Shame on those in government who forget this founding truth. As for our employers, our words have made you rich. Silencing us impoverishes the whole world.

The WGA stands with Jimmy Kimmel and his writers.

So when a studio creates unpaid internships in place of hiring and paying someone to do the work they need, we call that exploitative. But when a union crowdsources their members to perform unpaid labor that the office should actually hire staff to perform, we call that an act of service. Got it.
