Amazing to have launched a new independent games site over 20 years after I launched my last one. That one went pretty well for a while, so hopefully @respec.net can gain a similar fanbase. Check our welcome post and consider support via Patreon (patreon.com/respecnet) www.respec.net/feature/87-w...

I’ll elaborate on the above a little, I thought Sanji was really good in this arc but I think the Germa backstory was so ridiculously over the top and I struggled with Judge especially. I would like to love Sanji but his overt perversion holds him back

WHOLE CAKE ISLAND As far as the anime goes this arc feels long and drawn out. For every thing I liked (Pedro, Carrot, Katakuri, Pudding, Chiffon etc) there was a lot that I disliked to balance it out (Big Mom, The Singing, The Homies, Germa/Sanji) The best thing here is Jinbe though, he is my guy

I wonder why EB only has some things (Splatoon, Kingdom Hearts) but hasn’t put Fire Emblem or Zelda up for preorder

ZOU Definitely feels like a setup arc and visually might be the ugliest post-time skip OP has looked, but I still liked this. I think Robin might be the best Straw Hat

Train Dreams truly rocked my shit, a haunting movie that made me cry and cry

It’s a must watch every week. The fear mongering re: Nintendo has been over the top lately

I want to watch all the Ghostbusters movies but the spectre of Bill Murray haunting my Letterboxd stats scares me

DRESSROSA This one took some time and it was a bit of a chore which is a shame because I actually like the story and characters from this arc. I love Bartolomeo and the misfit pirates that latch on to Luffy, I think Doflamingo is one of the best villains so far and will take more Law any day.

It’s kind of insane that the game lets you just accidentally do this for your first route

Fremantle losing to the 17th ranked team at the MCG is the most Freo thing that could have happened today. Their only other game at the G this year is Collingwood rip

I am so fucking wrecked, 7 gigs in 14 days with another to come tomorrow and Tuesday - never let me do this again

After sitting on the Switch 2 direct I think Nintendo are the only one of the big 3 that know how to make a viral moment. - The playable cow in Mario Kart - New From Soft game - Showing Silksong for 3 seconds - …The “sexy” monkey in DK They know how to get people sharing their stuff

Genuinely the funniest movie I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing in the cinema!

Alastair @tenleafclover.bsky.social · 20/02/2025

PUNK HAZARD This one was a struggle, Ceaser lived up to the hype of being insanely annoying… mostly because of the shrill bg noises. I like that PH sets u up for everything that is soon to unfold but the arc does suffer because of it. Really enjoyed Robin this arc! Love when she’s having fun

FISHMAN ISLAND This arc has a really bad reputation and I was concerned going in but I actually enjoyed it a lot. Getting to see the results of the Straw Hats two years of hard work pay off was great! I’ve come around to Nu-Frankie! Could’ve used less Sanji and Caribou but enjoyable nonetheless

RETURN TO SABAODY My favourite little gang is back together 😭 I wish they didn’t take all of Usopp and Robin’s melanin and I’m not a huge fan of Nu-Frankie’s design but I’m sure he’ll grow on me.

POST WAR Part of me feels like this would have had more impact if it was placed before Impel Down, but then I cried my heart out when Garp went back to see Dadan. This arc really reinforced just how much I love all the Straw Hats* *If you don’t include Sanji

There’s a point I want to say around season 4 they stop taking themselves so seriously and just lean into being outrageous as all hell

010

Alastair @tenleafclover.bsky.social · 21/01/2025

MARINEFORD Obviously I knew this was coming but I didn’t realize it would hurt as much as it did. It’s crazy how much set up this show can do in the span of 30 episodes - there are characters and plot threads introduced here that I know won’t be relevant for years and years.

100

Alastair @tenleafclover.bsky.social · 21/01/2025

IMPEL DOWN I think this show is at its strongest when the Straw Hats are all together so I struggled to get into this arc at first but I ended up really enjoying the escalating events and make shift allies. I would die for Bon Clay or Jinbei.

Decided to start up One Piece again this year, the last arc I watched was Amazon Lily sometime in early 2024. To motivate me to keep going I’m gonna write some thoughts in a thread here as I finish each arc.
