Calvin and Hobbes really called it, didn’t they?
A black and white drawing from a Calvin and Hobbes strip. They are sitting together on a tree branch. Calvin says, with a furrowed brow, “isn’t it sad how some people’s grip on their lives is so precarious that they’ll embrace any preposterous delusion rather than face an occasional bleak truth?”

Water will always taste strange from a mug. I think it's a sort of cognitive dissonance like when you step onto a stationary escalator and your brain makes you almost fall over, in spite of the fact it's just stairs.

I've just resigned myself to not seeing this. £90 for standing at Birmingham, and I live in Hull.

Yes! Wonderful album - think I discovered it not long after the Notwist :)

Me and my wife started watching the series a while back - gave up quite quickly as it was a bit too close to current events.

Threads is also pretty good for this kind of behaviour - has anyone recommended the new Boards of Canada that came out today yet?

Yes, it seems our former prime minister may not have needed any form of blackmail to encourage his real life behaviour if that is in fact true.

I meant that he does a good job of extrapolating - I know often things are in the early stages and he just runs with "what's the worst that could happen?" Sadly that often seems to be the most likely outcome where profit and greed are the motives behind big tech.

That episode with the cloud-based brain damage solution is absolutely terrifying. Charlie Brooker is just a little *too* on the nose sometimes. A key reason why I hope we never allow anyone to dismantle the NHS in the UK

Some are amazing, some of the random flavours are not so great. I used to buy paper bags of something similar as a child, I think it had smashed up m and m's in it too... Now I want some too 🥺

Freezing those sticks feels like such an obvious idea. Why haven't I thought of that before! It's ridiculously hot down here near Bristol....

Breaking Bad is amazing precisely because there are no likeable characters by the end but you still want to watch it.

Oof. I'm currently reading @naomialderman.bsky.social's "Don't burn anyone at the stake today" and it's prompting me to rethink a lot of my smartphone use... This passage popped up this morning while staying at a friend's after a lovely evening out to see some music last night.

This may be my favourite FAFO moment of recent times. Just hope Trump doesn't expire before he gets his.

I love how Americans seem so joyous about the fact they can swear freely on British TV. Loved the first episode. You're so famous though! Are you coming to Hull to visit Amy and see our fine city sometime?

Leaves for me - seeing them start to creep out on the trees gives me a strange sense of comfort and reassurance. (Admittedly a little part of that is that nature doesn't give a crap about petty human squabbles, and just quietly keeps creating beauty year after year)

What do we think of the new album? I haven't picked up a copy yet but on first listen it had a good mix of their different styles...

I suspect they may have been influenced by Lightning Bolt, but went in a much more jazzy/twisty direction. Still undecided but there's some interesting stuff going on in there for sure... youtu.be/8JpHoAnaPK0?...

Gotta be careful with night toast. Things can quickly get out of hand, and before you know it you're standing in the kitchen waiting for your fifth slice to pop.
