I’m so lucky that fedex remembered that the arrows printed all over the box are meant to point left. I wouldn’t want the box of plants I spent $100 to ship to be delivered wrong side up!
A fedex delivery confirmation photo showing a box on a porch. FedEx has left it on its side even though every side of the box is covered in up arrow

Attention locals: area datacenter boosters are attempting to rebrand them as "digital infrastructure," so if you hear that in the din of your day, now you know.

These seem like the things you would come up with if you got all your Star Trek fan employees together and asked them to brainstorm the things they would actually want to buy. These are legitimately fun

I spent my afternoon cleaning out my hydroponic system to start fresh for the fall. Kind of funny (sad?) that the safe normal lettuce I’m growing is probably more rare than the devil’s lettuce that hydroponic supply places tend to focus on 🌱

It’s heartbreaking to lose Dolly Parton, but I can’t imagine a way to live a better life or be a better person than she was. What a beautiful legacy to leave behind.

We've been getting a lot of questions about how the Internet Archive digitizes books. The short answer: page by page, by hand. You may remember our viral 2021 video of Eliza Zhang scanning a book. That's still how we do it. Meet Eliza, and learn how we scan books: blog.archive.org/2021/02/09/m...

more places should have artists-in-residence. like there should be a residency where you live on a particular train for a month. there should be an oil rig residency, an arctic research station residency. maybe a residency at a zoo

My cats just brought me a mostly dead cicada for hunting practice, which I’m honestly embarrassed about. They’ve brought mice in the past so they must be starting to think I’m hopeless

I just did a little more late season fruit tree/plant shopping. Things were definitely on sale but it’s wild how many trees I got for the price of a few pounds of their produce. I know it will take some time to grow them but by the time I’m harvesting the prices of fruit will probably be worse 🫠

Grocery stores will often defrost some turkeys to sell last minute before thanksgiving, then sell leftover defrosted turkeys incredibly cheap in the days after thanksgiving. If you’re in a position to roast, slice, and freeze one it can be a great source of inexpensive protein!
