Meme picture of Mark Carney glowing red with power, holding the communist manifesto, standing in front of a parade of mounties waving the trans pride flag and the flag of the People's Republic of China. Carney is also standing in front of Parliament flying World Economic Forum flags, and a picture of young Mao Zedong overlaid with the CBC, Global News, and CP24 logos. An image of a "Truck Drivers: Wanted Dead or Alive" bounty is off to the side

Update on this, cansim users should update to the latest version (v0.5.0). The issue with StatCan mixing "non-breaking white space" characters into dimension and member names persists and is getting worse. ⚠️People downloading data directly or using other tools should take note and exercise caution.
Updated summary of label issues in StatCan data.

not to divert too much from the point, its, even with leftists, especially with leftist (irl?) who id love to support like yes ok "america IS bad we know, give me some nuance" but then i ask them a single thing about nato and europe and in their mind no one east of belgium developed free will yet

ffuuuuuu ok no because its like half of lib voters WANT (me, i want and im projecting) NDP to succeed on the fed level, even if not win, just the threat of it makes libs move to the left (see dental, and pharma plans) but when they are well, this and dont have their shit together its just sad.

every time we get to a new frontier in any other subject and need to solve a truly novel problem, oh wow what do we find, a mathematical framework that we can easily adapt to solve this problem, framework which was created 200 something years ago by a mathematician who wanted to find out,

who let the duck in @technoduck.me · 14/09/2026
Its kind of remarkable the level of complete belief that math research is just something new, and everything that we use in applied way already is just how the world was. sure if you really want to (youd be wrong but sure) you CAN say that research done today has "no application" , but somehow

I am of course, still VERY optimistic about opportunities that will arise from this, and hopefully changes that this will lead to. but will we have a full on constitutional reform to make this happen? i dont know.

"Terribly unsexy but terribly consequential nonetheless" has to become a motto of half polisci departments across the country. I love shitposting about carney and mandate of heaven but realistically so much power is held by provincial governments and they are at BEST antagonistic to fed (qc and ont)

There should be legal consequences if you let an AI agent do supply chain attacks.
Painting: Norman Rockwell's "Freedom of Speech" (1943), oil on canvas — a lean young workman in a suede jacket and blue plaid shirt stands to speak at a town meeting, chin raised, while seated older men in suits and ties look up at him; a folded blue booklet juts from his pocket. Signed top right "NORMAN ROCKWELL"; the blue pamphlet held at bottom centre reads "ANNUAL REPORT of the TOWN of [MONT]", i.e. a Vermont town report.

The picture starts with FDR’s January 1941 State of the Union, which named four freedoms worth fighting for. Rockwell wanted to illustrate them but could not find a handle on the abstraction until he attended a town meeting in Arlington, Vermont, where a neighbour — Jim Edgerton — stood and argued against a new school building that everyone else wanted. The others heard him out. That was the picture.

He used Arlington neighbours as models. The standing man is Carl Hess, a local garage owner. Rockwell put himself at the far left edge. He repainted the canvas four times, fighting the composition; the final solution was to drop the viewer’s eye below the speaker, so we look up at him along with the crowd, and to leave the background empty and dark so nothing competes.

The Office of War Information turned Rockwell down when he offered the series. The Saturday Evening Post ran them instead, one a week from 20 February 1943, each paired with an essay. The Treasury then reversed the government’s position and built the Second War Loan Drive around the paintings: a sixteen-city touring show that drew over a million visitors and sold on the order of $130 million in bonds. Millions of poster reprints followed.

Everyone in that room is white and the scene is a New England idyll, at a moment when Black Americans were running the Double V campaign against fascism abroad and segregation at home. Later artists — Hank Willis Thomas and Emily Shur’s 2018 restaging among them — have reshot the series precisely to widen who gets to stand up.
