The most absolutely massive flex from the state fair exhibit. This quilt is made of 40 years of prize ribbons from various categories at the New Mexico State Fair won by Carol St. Clair Johnson. She also won a prize for this quilt.

O Fair New Mexico-41 Fair Years
2023
satin ribbons

After unexpectedly winning her first blue ribbon for a sewn cape in 1981, Carol St. Clair Johnson developed an enduring love for the New Mexico State Fair. The quilt Fair New Mexico-41 Fair Years incorporates more than six hundred of the ribbons she won at the fair every subsequent year except 2020 (when the fair was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic). Johnson earned ribbons for needlework, knitting, crochet, pies, cookies, cakes, canning, jewelry, flowers, vegetables, and potted plants. The title of the quilt is a reference to the state song, and the design places the state's Zia sun symbol at the center. The quilt earned Johnson yet another ribbon: Best in Category (miscellaneous quilt) at the 2023 New Mexico State Fair.

Possibly putting in a full contents would have increased the page count to just over a multiple of 16, or other power of 2, making it much more expensive due to book binding costs.

Am I being overly autistic by expecting the burocracy to mean the words they use‽ E.g.does your health condition *restrict* your ability to work? I take restrict to mean "to limit someone's actions or movement, or to limit the amount, size, etc., of something:" but apparently the DWP mean prevent.

Since Young thinks it's hilarious when someone is hounded to death over accusations that he doesn't belong at Oxbridge, we should treat him how he wants to be treated. He got into Oxford below his offer (BBB) "my father insisted on calling up Harry Judge ... they decided to offer me a place."

I'm shocked to find the the free speech Union has said *nothing* about the proscription of Palestine and and that it is now illegal in the UK to say "I oppose genocide, I support Palestine Action." I was born yesterday so I've never seen a "free speech absoluteist" be a hypocrite before.

RIP Dolly Parton.

Never met her, never interviewed her (despite decades of unrequited requests) but thought she was utterly fabulous in every way.

Deeply ironic that one of the first page's signatories is Toby Young, given that Cofnas was so concerned about who earned a place at an Oxbridge university. But hypocrisy is table stakes and if one examines the race and ancestors of Young Vs Arday one may notice some pertinent differences.

Every time the press lads disastrously and culpably fuck up, usually with malice of forethought. Every time, without fail.

A great example of what always happens when the lads are asked to consider their own deep, immediately obvious guilt: like the Iraq War or austerity or Brexit, it turns out it was everybody's fault. And if it's everybody's fault, nobody is really to blame

Why is one white academic "race realist" able to ignite a media firestorm that drives a black man to suicide? Are all white academics collectively responsible? If they're not actively anti-racist does that provide cover for the racists?

Rainbow alphabet quilt top wall hanging. Each row has 4 squares. From the top the rows are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet for a total of 28 squares. Each square except the top left and bottom right has a capital and lower case letter.

I used black on white iron on letters for the capitals, (top stitched with white thread to be belt and braces) and felt letters for the lowercase letters. The quilt squares were sized based on the felt letters, since this set was advertised as being iron on and 52 pieces. However, the set was missing the capital B and E, the replacement set was also missing the B and E. And they weren't iron on.

I top stitched the felt letters with a gold/ orange thread* using a backstitch so each letter is outlined. This works well for every letter except e which is orange on orange on orange. Shame this lined up on the most common letter in the English language.

*The type used for jeans.
