Quilt top alphabet wall hanging completed! #quiltsky

Rainbow alphabet quilt top wall hanging. Each row has 4 squares. From the top the rows are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet for a total of 28 squares. Each square except the top left and bottom right has a capital and lower case letter.

I used black on white iron on letters for the capitals, (top stitched with white thread to be belt and braces) and felt letters for the lowercase letters. The quilt squares were sized based on the felt letters, since this set was advertised as being iron on and 52 pieces. However, the set was missing the capital B and E, the replacement set was also missing the B and E. And they weren't iron on.

I top stitched the felt letters with a gold/ orange thread* using a backstitch so each letter is outlined. This works well for every letter except e which is orange on orange on orange. Shame this lined up on the most common letter in the English language.

*The type used for jeans.

I'm making an alphabet wall hanging for my nibbling #quiltsky

A quilt top work in progress, currently there are 5 rows of 4 squares, with the colour theme of the rows, in descending order being red, orange, yellow, green, blue.

I intend to add an indigo and violet row to the bottom, and have upper and lower case letters to add to each square except the top left and bottom right.

I love tartan pleatted to the stripe, why wouldn't you use the fabric to do the thing only it can do? Also pleats are great in a skirt, because more pleats=extra spinny

On a kilt pleating to the stripe is often reserved for military kilts. But we should reclaim tartan, for too long we civilians have been under sumptuary laws, and even when repealed tradition holds us to them!
