A nice rabbit hole for students: Hong Wang has just won a 2026 Fields Medal for work connected to the Kakeya problem. It begins with an almost too-simple question: how little space do you need to turn a needle through every possible direction? She is the 3rd woman and 1st Chinese woman to win!

Focus, commitment, and insight resulted in a “once in a century” proof. Hong Wang is now just the third woman to win a Fields Medal.

I've added a 'Countdown' style game to the site! I delivered a lesson before half term with a 'Countdown' style element and I was impressed with the competitive spirit it instilled in my (sometimes unfocused!) Year 7 class. It has difficulty settings - try it with indices, or 4 digit numbers!

I'm happy to report a positive lesson on percentage using the Percentages Grid tool! Having the digital tool at hand really made it straightforward to synthesise examples when reteaching was needed, and easily show equivalence between percentages and twentieths/tenths/more. #mathsteaching #FDP

The most important part of the White Paper will be *how* decisions are going to be made about which support is effective and who should get it. In the end, that’s the crux of any SEND reform.

Check out the new Percentage Grid tool, live now: www.teachmaths.net/mathematics/... Easily model percentages and equivalence to fractions. Extend knowledge to percentages over 100% by adding a second grid. Show and hide equivalence for Predict-Observe-Explain. I'm using it in class on Monday!
