I've done enough of these that I tell them to put me at the end of the day because I've been known to scare patients in the waiting room from screaming. Most times I take off my leather belt and bite down on it when they're doing the test. Muffles the screams.

I suppose it depends on where you're located and the communities you see. Here in the cities on the west coast of the US, among the LGBTQ+ community, it's incredibly common. I and many of my friends have no contact with one or more family members out of a need for safety from abusive situations.
