shmups are the one genre that never gives in to the weird modern concept of lowering "friction" by dumbing down gameplay. Plus it doesn't fight for being the "next super mario" with all the classics being so different from each other. So much freedom in shmups to go wild!

Well, I spent most of my free time before work sanding a glass pen and writing the words Bakushin and testing over two pages of my sketchbook. Not exactly time wasted since I didn't have other plans besides watching a movie. I'll do that after work.

Best way to do that is to start recording measurements. It's hard to see the difference an inch of growth depending on your personal size without previous reference. Personally, I check how far I can wrap my hand around my bicep.

You can also get really expressive gesture sketches by using a fude nib with a cartridge. That way you won't run out of ink after one minute of fast sketching. It's interesting to try out different sort of inking tools!

It feels unfair comparing it to the Kakimori brass nib because it's 7x's as expensive and made of more durable metal. But the Kakimori is really nice. A shame some people only buy it for ink swatching. Bro, don't use a $50 for only swatching, write/draw with it! I use it for fast gesture drawing.

Personally, I don't have much interest in glass dip pens other than the chinese Jinhao pens you can get on AliExpress beacuse they have caps. I like caps so I can toss my pen anywhere and it'll be safe.

The glass pen is a Komamono Lab Fonte, a pen meant to have multiple nib options like a brush, rollerball, glass nib, or fountain nib in F. I can put nerds candy in the empty body of my pen since it does nothing for the glass nib. For $7 it's a neat custom pen to fuck around with. Don't expect much.

Alrighty! Done sanding my $7 glass dip pen! You can see how it started as an okay M nib that could use a bit of sanding with 2000grit. It got wobbly in the burgundy bc the nib was loose. Glued it in and polished it. Nice nearly B size, smooth, doesnt last long. #fountainPen #dipPen

I'm very glad that I don't have much nostalgia for anything beyond the 32bit era because I am old. And if I want to play a PSX or Saturn game, I'll play it on normal emulator and fuck with the settings and hope it doesn't crash as the gods intended.

With all the stuff going on with the recomp gaming scene, it makes me glad that I play 16bit and under games that run pretty damn fine already. I can play my favs on a 15 year old emulator. That's a program far older than most vibecoders.

This map shows the top spots that players should stick to when starting out. North is Maintenance, where you can get repaired and stay alive. South is the Save Guy. Talk to him to save the game.

East of Save guy is the Weapon shop. You start with a decent selection of guns, but you'll need to buy plenty of ammo.

I kinda knew what I was getting into with this very cheap glass dip pen so this is actually a fun DIY project of making my own broad sized glass dip nib. I don't care for the fancy glass handles. I prefer a plain handle with a protective cap. I also don't want to pay $45 for that.

oops, the $7 glass dip pen I bought had the nib just... fall out of the holder. Gonna gorilla glue that back together and then return to sanding the nib down to a broad point when it's not all wibbly wobbly
