They're calling it epistemic collapse, did you know that? Epistemic collapse, folks. Because now the perceptions, they're totally divorced from empirical fact.

While far-right influencers, eugenicists & evolutionary psychologists gather at the Natal conference to stoke fears of “demographic collapse”, demographers quietly get on with working out how to adapt to demographic change. The conclusion: policy should focus on human capital not demographic targets

📣 Out on #FirstView 📣 Charlène Calderaro, in her piece "Beyond Instrumentalization," utilizes a multi-method approach to understand articulations of femonationalism among grassroots activists in 🇫🇷. 🌟Available #OpenAccess🌟 polisky gendersky buff.ly/qZ1SF95
Research article "Beyond Instrumentalization: Far-Right Women’s Appropriation of Feminism in France" by Charlène Calderaro.

Abstract begins: Femonationalism, or the selective use of feminist discourse to advance far-right causes, has often been analyzed through the lens of party politics. Shifting the focus to grassroots activists, this article studies a group of far-right female activists in France organized as a women-only collective of “identitarian feminists” to explore how these grassroots activists articulate anti-feminist frames while also appropriating selective aspects of feminism. The study relies on three types of empirical data: a long-term digital observation of the collective, a critical analysis of documents, and 10 semi-structured interviews. These data reveal that these activists diverge from traditional anti-feminism and instead reflect a femonationalist appropriation of feminism.

APSA Statement on Executive Action Impacts on Research Funding, Data Availability and Academic Freedom
The American Political Science Association (APSA) is deeply concerned about recent executive actions that have had troubling implications for research funding and academic freedom. In January, President Trump issued an executive order calling for the termination of federal support for diversity, equity, and inclusion programs. This was followed by a memorandum to temporarily pause a wide range of federal grants, loans, and other forms of financial assistance, to allow for a review of federal grants and awards and to enforce compliance with the executive order.

Under fascism, no one is safe. Universities stayed quiet as the admin targeted DEI & foreign aid, censored research, etc. Now, they face devastating cuts to indirect cost rates, threatening research & operations. Silence won’t protect institutions. It won’t protect people; it never does.

Research article "A Look Back At 20 Years of Research on Gender and Voting in Politics & Gender" by Erin C. Cassese & Amanda Friesen.
Abstract reads: This essay highlights the impact of Politics & Gender on the discipline’s understanding of how gender shapes the preferences, behavior, and motivations of voters. It provides descriptive information about the prevalence of research on gender and voting in the journal, along with the proportion of articles dedicated to women voters across different regions globally. The bulk of the essay focuses on the substance of this research — drawing out major themes and identifying significant contributions within each theme — and it concludes by offering a future research agenda on gender and voting.

"Masculine Energy"
Panel 1: Mark Zuckerberg stands on the stage at a Meta all-hands meeting, wearing a little chain and a shirt that says "Cool Dude." "I think our company could use more Masculine Energy," he says into a mic. In the crowd, an employee raises their hand. "Excuse me, Mr. Zuckerberg," the person asks. Panel 2: The person stands up, asking, "By "Masculine Energy," do you mean a mature definition where men in power use their relative strength to protect and uplift those less privileged?" Panel 3: The person continues, "…or a more childish definition where men in power are free to be aggressive and harm others without being held accountable?" Panel 4: Zuck stands silent for a beat. Panel 5: "You're all fired," he says.

📢New issue of #PAG20 is out!📢 In 'Whitewashing Women Voters' Chaerim Kim and Jane Junn investigate how the intersectional positionality of race and gender affect reasons for voting for 🇺🇸 presidential candidates in 2020 polisky gendersky buff.ly/429pBxi
Research article entitled "Whitewashing Women Voters: Intersectionality and Partisan Vote Choice in the 2020 US Presidential Election" by Chaerim Kim and Jane Junn.

Abstract begins: Due to the concern about relatively small samples, it has been conventional in previous research to analyze women voters together as a group. However, viewing women as a monolith results in ‘whitewashing,’ obscuring variation at the intersection of race and gender in partisan vote choice. Utilizing the 2020 Collaborative Multiracial Post-election Survey (CMPS), we disaggregate women voters by race and ethnicity and analyze the significance of a host of factors that contribute to partisan vote choice, with particular attention to the role of attitudes about race (i.e., “racial resentment”) and gender (i.e., “hostile sexism”) on support for Donald Trump in 2020.
