The Fifth of #FatBatWeek 2026: Western Big-eared bat and Cranberry Cheesecake. Shout out to @albertabats.bsky.social, @wildlifeacoustics.com, @azbatrescue.bsky.social, @honkifurhoary.bsky.social who suggested the bat species. Half way through the week already!

A long eared bat with a simple but lumpy nose sits on top of a square slice of layered pink cheese cake with generouse thick bands of cranberry jam and a garnish of fresh berries.

The Fourth of #fatbatweek 2026: Western Barbastelle and Hazelnut Pudding. According to my deep (wikipedia) research Hazelnuts & Barbastelle barbastelle range extends from Ireland to the Middle East. Spotlighting: @batrescueberks.bsky.social, @batconservation.bsky.social, & @battylisa.bsky.social

A dark chocolate coloured bat with a triangular head and a rather marsupial like nose array (it makes me think of a wombat's snout) clings to the side of a short round glass with a layer of hazelnuts then a creamy pudding topped with a swirl of cream, gold star shaped cachous and a pair of autumnal hazel leaves.

Artists: Get yourself at *least* one capital "C", heart dot the "i" Client like Tansy: someone who gives enough art direction to provide a clear cobbled laneway to follow, & then hands the creative reins at you with a permutation of "Run free - I picked you for your style and I trust your process!"

@honkifurhoary.bsky.social and @albertabats.bsky.social : a acquaintance at a USA renfaire (looking into what state to help with narrowing down species) had this little fellow tumble out of their awning when they opened for the day - hoping you can get me a rough ID on who it might be.

A little Brown microbat being transported to a safe place on the end of a plank after being rudely awakened.

A little brown bat of some sort, having tumbled out of an awning is lying on it's back briefly stunned at the audacity of the humans accidentally turning it out of it's overnight lodgings. It was then moved to a safe place to recuperate and then relocated itself.

The Third of #FatBatWeek 2026: Rider's Free-Tailed bat and a caramel Macadamia nut tart. Shouting out to the Australasian Bat Society, @flybynight and all the Australian Bat researchers I've met while enthusing on this annual event– please tag yourselves in if you see this!

A free-tailed mastiff bat, with angular ears, perches on a glossy wedge of caramel slathered cream coloured nuts and a nut studded creamy filling.

Second of #FatBatWeek 2026: A Trident-nosed bat and a Mubuyu* Mousse. These species are found across several South Eastern African countries. Tagging @batswborders.bsky.social @africanbatcon.bsky.social, and @irorotanshi.bsky.social in particular for people to follow their great conservation work.

a pompom of a bat with a complex leaf-nose three little cones along the top. It rests by feet and wing thumbs on a martini glass with a creamy dessert garnished with little crumbles of white baobab fruit. At the foot of the glass is a white baobab blossom, also a pompom of golden stamens with big white petals remeniscent of a dog rose.

@tansyrr.bsky.social made mention of a dragon bonnet the other day - my brain went "dragon fruit bonnet". The thought continued to rattle around in my gourd until just now. If I didn't have fatbatweek just starting I'd start w "fruithat friday" this month... maybe in November.

Several years ago, listening to @tkingfisher.com's Paladin series, I sketched up a page of Badgers with the intention of trying to depict the Gnoles from the series. I finally sat and had a quick stab at some of the characters tonight. I couldn't leave out the Oxen, Pretty-Foot and Wise-Nose.
