Heads up, pretty sure k9hikesaz is a troll/plant. On the surface they appear to support boycotts and peaceful protests, but every single time they comment on someone else’s posts it’s to discourage any effort and/or fear monger with the worst and scariest possibilities. I’d suggest blocking them.

1.) 40% of Americans have changed their spending habits as a form of protest since the inauguration. 2.) We don’t know who was boycotting and who might have spent extra to spite the boycott that day. 3.) One small action being ineffective doesn’t mean there’s no point in trying anything ever again.

Then it sounds like you could also benefit from mutual aid. You don’t have to contribute $$. Time, skillshares, kindness, and sharing ideas are all part of it. It seems like you’re not enjoying this conversation, so I’ll back off - but please consider at least not actively discouraging any efforts.

Hahaha good luck to you too! We will all need it! But in all seriousness if you want to do *something* without risking being fired you could still support through mutual aid and building that community support network :) We all have different risk tolerances but it’s not all or nothing.

I understand. You’re not understanding what I’m saying. EVERYONE strikes, or at least a massive portion of the population. It’s not about whether they have the legal right to fire us. It’s about their entire workforce walking out at once. Including the bosses. Think *big*.

Practice changing your "we should do this" into a list of tasks and asks. "To make this happen, we need to do XYZ. I will do X. Who can do Y?" I've watched too many great ideas languish in organizing convos bc they stay framed as suggestions even when everyone agrees they should happen.

Let people be upset! The impulse is to soothe, to reassure, to calm, to fix. Tbh I think this encourages people to learn “freeze” as their default “fight/flight/freeze” response. How do we instead make room for big emotions? How do we help people channel them? How do we collectively un-freeze?
