All pet builds in Grim Dawn are cursed. However, some are more cursed than others. Well, its more that Shaman is perhaps one of the weirdest classes in Grim Dawn in terms of 'how make damage big'. Because if you don't use one particular ability it feels like a bit of a slog.

Its pretty funny knowing a lot about Grim Dawn and discovering what amounts to 'forbidden' character builds. Interestingly, they all seem pet related. Its not even that they could potentially be bad builds, so much as you do not see their true potential until you get level 94 gear.

i do think it is a bit of an abdication of responsibility to say you can never tell. that's something that people who are around obviously abusive people and allow to happen have said a lot over the years. there are often signs, but signs can be ambiguous and it can be hard to do something about it.

I managed to contact Claude Needham, one of the guys who worked on the game, who had the full version and shared me the files after a few years of conversing. Now, after 26 years of seemingly being lost, the full version of Exploding Lips has now been found and is available for download.

Excerpt from an e-mail conversation between me and Claude.

Claude:
I did not have the full game until recently.
This is the first we have communicated since I found the actual running code.
Previously I only had the orbs, not the full environment.
It was on an old backup drive that I lost in the bottom of a filing cabinet.
When I come back from my walk (doctor's orders -- every day), I will send you the file.
Probably with wetransfer or https://bmrng.me/ (the zero spam version)

Me:
All right, I'm glad to hear that. Just lemme know if you're ready to send me the files.
I've got Windows 98 virtual machines set up on both DOSBox-X and 86Box that I can use the to test the game out.
I'll let you know how it goes, and afterwards I might post the game files on the Internet Archive for archival.

All right, I gave it a whirl on my Windows 98 VM on DOSBox-X. The game managed to boot up fine as you can see in the picture attached.
Looks like you were right; this game only works on Windows 98. I tried running on Windows 11, and the game straight-up refuses to run.
Well, I guess I can finally conclude this decades-long quest. I now uploaded the full game to the Internet Archive.
