Space Invaders at an ice arena. I was more interested in that than playing Pee-wee hockey at the time much to the annoyance of my dad.

Gaming Hot Take: It is okay (and healthy) to let things go. You don't have to be loyal to a company, platform, franchise, publisher or developer if they go in a direction or have policies you don't agree with. YOU DON'T HAVE TO EXPLAIN YOUR REASONING TO ANYONE.

Am I capable? Cooking: Yeah Whistle: Nope. Draw: Used to. Paint: Same as above. Swim: Yes. English: Yeppers. Sing: Oh gods no. Drive: All the time. Gifting: I could be better. Write: Yes (and I seem to be good at it?!) Guitar: Nope. Could never get the hang of instruments. Speaking: Sort of?

My #RandomGameSaturday is my collection of Legend of Zelda games spanning the NES to Switch. I know it's technically more than one game, but I'm making up for not posting a game on Saturdays. Happy 40th anniversary to one of my favorite video game franchises. #zelda

I still have trouble expressing myself out of fear, and it's still very much a work in progress.

I'm better thanks to therapy, but I'm upset that I could've spent my time enjoying these things and not caring about what everyone else thought rather than wallowing in self-pity and depriving myself of experiences that could have made me happy.

That music, art, game, movie, hobby, that I was into and was told sucked I just took to heart and either never interacted with it again or did it in secret ashamed for liking what I liked.

Real Talk: In my last therapy appointment, I spoke to my therapist about how I too easily gave up power (my words). For the longest time, I would take something at face value as truth and would acquiesce rather than stand up for myself.

This is what I woke up to this morning. My wife @lynnindenver.bsky.social knows I think angy rain frogs are cute and proceeded to have a bunch of silently judging while looking at me. Gods I love this woman.

It took me like 25~30 years after that to finally see the movie and I LOVE IT. It's cheesy in the best possible way. I also want to wear the dress Olivia Newton-John wears in the movie. I MEAN HOW COULD YOU NOT LOVE THIS LOOK?!

True story: I was eight when Xanadu came out and I asked my dad if he could take me to see it. He let me know in no uncertain terms that it was a movie I shouldn't be watching. I don't know why, but I gather he probably felt that a musical would turn his then son gay. Now I'm trans.

Even though my first video game system as a kid was a ColecoVision, the NES and arcades heavily influenced my taste in games. As I got exposure to more hardware and systems, my tastes broadened, but these titles really set the foundation for a lot of the games I tend to gravitate toward.

My 9 Games That Shaped Who I Am:
Top row: The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros, Space Invaders
Middle row: The Guardian Legend, Metroid, Life Force
Bottom row: Space Harrier, Tetris, Blaster Master

I could never do fighting game special moves on a joystick to save my life (I play fighting games on a d-pad like a monster), and I don't think I have a preference between square and octagon gates. Still, the consensus seems to stick with a square gate.

120

systemreactor @systemreactor.bsky.social · 23/09/2026

Shmuppers, please let me know thoughts on joysticks, buttons and gates! I really only want to open up this thing once, do the mods and be done with it. I think a stick with less travel distance would be ideal, but I've never modded a joystick before, so I am open to opinions.

systemreactor @systemreactor.bsky.social · 23/09/2026

At some point very soon, I want to mod my 8BitDo Arcade stick for use with shmups (I find the stock joystick a little too loose). I'm thinking octagonal gate (?). I will need to open mine up, but I believe stock is a square gate. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UYt...

No, the kits you got are from Plum who also do the R-Type Arrowhead and Gradius Vic Viper model kits. The one I got is manufactured from Kotobukiya (and has the Raystorm branding). Here's a link to the R-Gray 1 product listing: www.kotobukiya.co.jp/en/product/d...

I did a build of the R-Gray 1 maybe five years ago? I've always liked the Ray series ship designs.
