I listened to hundreds of genuinely awful Brewers games called by a joyful Ueck while I was in college in the mid 2000s. He was the soundtrack to my summer job where I worked nights after class. The ‘08 playoff berth felt like a miracle. Then lots of heartbreak. So tonight feels so fucking good ⚾️

8 episodes into S4 and I’m not sure why Ted Lasso came back besides Apple fired the money cannon at the people involved. S3 was a muddled mess and the slide continues. We keep watching as a a shared household show, but man it’s tough sledding

I shouldn't be shocked, but the level in which this FOX MLB broadcast crew has zero respect for the best team in baseball is just so gross. Slathering PCA, talking about how great a Cubs/Phillies series would be, Dodger talk, etc. Really hope we take this Pennant and earn some respect

Stuck on a plane, so more movie reviews. Fuze is a great action romp. A tight 90min thriller with twists and turns. More like this please

Not sure how this one slipped through my interests, but Conflict (Konflikti), a 2024 Finnish TV miniseries about a 2014 Ukraine-style invasion was amazing. 6 episodes, good mix of action/drama. 8/10 except for the somewhat dickish American portrayal and a weird storyline that’s abandoned.

I remember reading an article that “Cooks was punk rock in an era of Top 40 garbage”. No ads, honest equipment reviews, and well tested recipes for home cook using supermarket ingredients. I’ve been a digital subscriber for long time. Seriously hope PE doesn’t ruin it.

Made the mistake of trusting a roasted chicken recipe from Bon Appetit instead of a trusted source (Kenji, ATK). A 45 min one pan chicken with vegetables turned into a 1h30+ endeavor with multiple pans and undercooked carrots. Fail on my part for picking this before the heat wave too 🥵 😕

TBH, having rewatched SG-1 and SGA over the past couple months, it's probably best to not continue the timeline. Like, there are times it's painfully 1990s cable TV. I remember thinking it was super tacti-cool when I was 12 years old but hoooo boy it doesn't stand up on the small unit stuff.

Welp, rewatched “Battle of Britain” (1969) and hooooo boy that hit me in the feels. Obviously fantastic stuff with an amazing cast (Caine, a young Ian McShane??, Robert Shaw, snd Susannah York throwing 100mph heat). And arguably an admirable early depiction of PTSD. A genuine banger. Watch it.

I think about this a lot. The veneration of those lost at Abbey Gate became a subtle FJB/LGB thing amongst active duty in a weird way. Like some commands had displays with photos in late 2024. Unfortunately I don’t think the service members lost in this conflict will be treated the same.
