Xue Yang reads the words of the task out loud with growing glee, then grins at the man sitting in the chair in front of him with a blood pressure cuff strapped to his upper arm. He takes a step closer, looming over him so he's forced to crane his neck to look up at Xue Yang in a way he never is when they’re both standing. “Pervert,” Xue Yang purrs approvingly.

“The Taskmaster sets the tasks,” Song Lan replies, as perfectly bland as ever. “I only carry them out.”

Xue Yang laughs, and even to his own ears it sounds mean. “Of course he does, babe.” He reaches out and tucks a loose strand of hair behind Song Lan’s delicate ear, and sees him visibly repress a flinch. “It's not like every single part of this show is a thinly veiled excuse for you to indulge in your own personal fetishes in front of the biggest possible audience, whilst also getting paid for it."

Song Lan stares placidly up at him. It feels like a challenge.

Right. Might as well get started on the task as soon as possible – and everyone knows how weird Song Lan is about being touched, so that's exactly where Xue Yang is going to start.

Wen Qing makes her way to the circle with the table of kitchen equipment. “This one’s got the blindfold. Of course.” She glares at Song Lan, and Xue Yang considers that he’s probably not the only one to have occasionally been tempted to stab the man in the face during the filming of the tasks so far. “So the one with the bags for life must be the ear defenders. Presumably each circle has things we’ll need to complete the task, and we’ll have to work together to combine everything in a way that makes sense.”

“You should do the cooking,” Wei Wuxian tells her.

“What, because I’m a woman?”

“No, because you’re a scientist. And a kitchen’s just a laboratory where you can eat the experiments.” Wei Wuxian looks very pleased with himself after saying this.

“Technically, every laboratory’s a laboratory where you can eat the experiments,” Xue Yang chimes in. “If you’re not a coward.”

Wei Wuxian points at him, and emphatically says “Yes.”

It's not quite Wednesday yet but have a WIP anyway. For the @sxx-love-week.bsky.social prompt "monsters." cw // body horror, hand trauma

He turns to push himself upright, and unexpectedly a spike of pain shoots through his right hand. He sits up quickly and once again finds himself reduced for a moment to blinking: there’s blood all over his fingers, staining his skin and smeared across the blankets.

It’s at its worst on his middle finger: the whole digit is red, and there’s a crust of oozing scabs building up around the nail bed. He examines it from every angle, turning his hand over, and over again. What could he have done to himself in his sleep to make it bleed this much? He doesn’t remember it hurting at all the night before. Absently he sticks his finger into his mouth to clean it off—and something shifts against his tongue, abrupt and disquieting. He snatches his hand back out of his mouth, and spits out a fingernail into his palm.

“What the fuck,” he says, staring down at it.

He checks over the rest of the nails on that hand, and then the other. None of them are bleeding yet, but there’s a tender, swollen redness to them that suggests they could start anytime. Nausea is welling up in his gorge. Ruthlessly he wrestles it back down, and looks again at his middle finger. In the soft, strangely naked spot where his nail used to be, he finds the slightest hint of a bony protrusion growing in its place; when he presses experimentally down on it, another spike of pain ricochets up his hand. Gently he feels around his fingertip, working his way down to the first knuckle. The structure of the bone, he realizes uneasily, seems different than it ought to be—and Xue Yang is a person who has good fucking reason to know the shape of his hands.

A hysterical little giggle escapes his throat. “This is fucked up,” he says.

Day 1. @sxx-love-week.bsky.social Mythology I thought of a backstory for this while doing it, Xue Yang is a cannibalistic mermaid who used to eat humans until Xiao Xingchen found him. Xue Yang would like to eat Song Lan, but Xiao Xingchen won’t let him because he wants to keep Song Lan. 😌

His comedy was strange, in a way that tickled Xue Yang’s brain. Strange like Xue Yang’s sense of humour was strange, but in a slightly different flavour. Less dark, on the surface at least. He leant a lot on the persona he had of a young man with absolutely no modern cultural references available to him, and a lot of his work was social and cultural commentary from that outside perspective.

He giggled at his own jokes. Relentlessly. He seemed to fucking love getting heckled, face creasing in instant, visible, helpless joy no matter what was being yelled at him. Xue Yang loved getting heckled, too, but mostly because it gave him carte blanche to verbally cut the unlucky heckler to bloody shreds in front of a baying crowd. Xiao Xingchen, on the other hand, seemed to genuinely <i>like</i> it, even going so far as to climb down from the stage in a few of the videos Xue Yang could find on youtube and go out into the audience so he could hear the heckler better, making the entire audience wait while he had a meaningful, inaudible thirty second conversation with them that always seemed to leave them looking vaguely awe-struck and dazed.

What an absolute freak.

I don’t think of XXC as being super big on tattoos. In one of my fics he has a phases of the moon tattoo, so I can see him having like one or two kind of minimalist black and grey designs. Love him with ear piercings, tho, and perhaps also nipple piercings? 👀

i recently read a book where someone had lip piercings and learned i’m very into it i think xue yang has them, plus eyebrow piercings and basically anywhere else he can get them he ALSO has a lot of scarred over spots where he got spontaneous piercings but didn’t maintain them
