Had to ask my parents to purchase and install a new adjustable bedframe (so I can move after I lay down) cause the old one broke. It felt like being a zoo animal whose keepers have to fix part of my enclosure, so I go wait and chew some hay in the corner until they can let me back into my area.

It's absolutely possible to design a social media that rewards positive engagement and discourages negative engagement, but it's never been tried on a large scale because It would necessitate a big enough change that the market would likely be hostile to it. Market "meritocracy" in action, there.

The attitude problem is downstream from the reward functions of current social media. Controversy and rage bait activate users to engage, which expands the reach of the post. It's a design problem that companies have no incentive to solve, and little incentive to control with moderation.

Not that it's a perfect comparison. The most impressive thing about it is the way that the whole show coheres together to recreate One Piece in a new medium. Speed Racer is more about the original's vibe than its story, which gave it more freedom as a film, to mixed benefit.

The live action Speed Racer is a closer comparison, imo. Netflix One piece obviously doesn't have a Wachowski directing, but it's just as dedicated as Speed Racer to recreating the spirit of the thing and expressing love for it without treating it like a sacred cow.

It looks better, but more importantly it actually makes big changes to the pacing and scenes of the original while still caring about the characters. It's not the JoJo movie, which is just a clumsy recreation of the original, or Dragonball Evolution, a generic bad movie where the lead is named goku

It's easy to overcomplicate, but like... A movie that usually uses the wrong tools in the wrong places, deploys tropes badly, and doesn't serve its characters well is a bad movie. It's the same as any other quality judgment. It's just that failed movies are sometimes still fun and interesting

I respect the writing in a lot of the Warhammer games I've played. It's workmanlike, it gets the universe across, it's frequently performed well. But the books can't be written like this, right? They don't consist of like 90% the same formally phrased exposition followed by threats and posturing?
