Here's the 8mm transfer of my personal copy of Buster Keaton's Cops from 1922: youtu.be/XgEmeGznYxk

Cops (1922) - Directed by Buster Keaton - 8mm Blackhawk Films transfer

The audience for the originals is WAY smaller than you’d expect and gets smaller daily. And they’d cause unnecessary confusion for the larger audience who grew up with the special edition (30 years ago next year)

2006 is what i meant. I have them. And the laserdiscs (and no they weren’t, they were earlier versions, at least A New Hope) . But honestly, even having them I never watch them.

The 2014 DVD release had them

As we speak, I'm working on Buster Keaton's "Cops"

Though I DO prefer the special editions of Star Wars, I have no qualms with all of the original versions being preserved. And I'm glad folks do this work. This is part of why I'm digitizing all of these 8mm Blackhawk release silent films. I want to see it kept.

Of all the 8mm reels I've digitized, this one is by far the weirdest. youtu.be/cdA802UeoYM

Can’t wait! I’ve been deep diving them lately. I even stumbled across a signed copy of Albert E. Smith’s autobiography!

A book signed “Vitagraphically Yours, Albert E. Smith”

Got an unusual ask here, if folks would be kind enough to help spread the word. If you're a bookseller/bookstore who would be interested, pls comment with your bookstore's name & location. US only, as internatl mail is insane. (But maybe my UK publisher can be talked into something similar?)

AI companies would have you believe that the tools they are building are so powerful that they may set out to disempower and even destroy humanity of their own volition. But this obscures the truth: It is AI companies that are building those tools, making decisions to disempower other humans.

Just this last weekend, I was able to catch a live organist do two Buster Keaton films. <chef's kiss>

ICYMI my cursed film novel not only came out in paperback and ebook earlier this month, but also in audiobook! Jeremy Carlisle Parker (A Game in Yellow) brings her incredible talent and fantastic sense of atmosphere to THIS MOVIE DOESN'T END THE WAY WE WANT 📽️ rbmediaglobal.com/audiobook/97...

I've looked into buying old 8mm and Super 8mm home movies for this very purpose, but they're shockingly expensive. I have a batch coming though, with a Super 8 print of The Phantom of the Opera.

Taking a break from The Extra Girl (those 25 minute reels take 4-5 hours to scan) to scan Roscoe Arbuckle’s “Fatty’s Magic Pants.” Arbuckle’s become one of my favorites over the years. It’s obvious why he was a star.

Next up is Mabel Normand in The Extra Girl! It’s a four reeler, so it’s going to take forever. Should I upload one reel at a time? Or cut it together as one video?

I just read a third or possibly fourth news article where the reality of an 'AI has discovered something marvellous!' story turns out to be GenAI somehow accessed material it had no permissions for, which was the outcome of an expert's years of work, and presented it without attribution. GenAI lies.
