I for one think it’s bad that the president can just say crazy stuff all day every day and 99% of it doesn’t make the news because we’ve normalized having an insane president

Trying to be brave and add a little paint when I’m assembling these little collages. From a series in which each piece includes a fragment from a 1930s children’s textbook. 4” x 4” collage on canvas panel.
Square collage assembled from magazine and catalogue scraps in hues of metallic gold and red , plus some mulberry paper and a ticket to a public pool. Images include a a sliver of a watch and the textbook fragment which reads “a mistake he sometimes makes”. Canvas is painted light gold with antique gold markings.

This sums up my own experience in recent years. My theory is that there are so many genuine existential crises right now that people's instinct is to treat even low-stakes issues (movies! fandoms! personal preferences!) like existential crises. Makes having a normal conversation almost impossible.

Collage assembled from mulberry paper, magazine and catalogue scraps in hues of green and teal with cranberry at the center. A little gold paint over some elements. The phrase “nearly everyone lives in two worlds” cut from a children’s textbook is included.

Good reminder: “The benefit of the doubt is more than an expression. It is a life philosophy that asks us to be curious before we are certain, to leave room for an explanation, and to remember that the person on our screen has a life beyond the moment we are watching.”

I Blame the Planets,

though I don’t understand them, even poor relegated Pluto, who has vanished from the old mnemonic memory song so that now My Very Educated Mother Just Serves Us Noodles instead of Nine Pizzas. No matter. Astrologers say that those bulbous spheres are at fault for all my troubles. Who am I to argue when my car’s battery dies beneath a flock of shitting pigeons on a cold day and the windows fog from the steam of my breath while I wait for a tow truck? I curse those damn globules of gas and rock until I remember how lovely Earth looks from space, its oceans and cloud garments, its swirling. I can’t stay mad for long, at least at Earth. Or Mercury. I wish it would clap back, rain asteroids on our heads every time someone says retrograde to explain their misfortunes. It’s not Mercury’s fault, hung on the sky like an ornament, gazing out at its backyard of stars. I understand what it’s like—to take the blame, to have no voice.
