Trying to be brave and add a little paint when I’m assembling these little collages. From a series in which each piece includes a fragment from a 1930s children’s textbook. 4” x 4” collage on canvas panel.
Square collage assembled from magazine and catalogue scraps in hues of metallic gold and red , plus some mulberry paper and a ticket to a public pool. Images include a a sliver of a watch and the textbook fragment which reads “a mistake he sometimes makes”. Canvas is painted light gold with antique gold markings.

Thank you durhamhealthnc.bsky.social for (once again!) making it look easy to clearly and accurately communicate the inconvenient realities of COVID. Actual public health messaging!
“Myth vs Fact” Graphic showing a person in a bed and the following information in text boxes on a blue background:

COVID-19 myths vs. facts. myth: I feel sick but tested negative on a COVID-19 home test, so it's safe to be around others. Fact: It's important to test multiple times if you are feeling sick or have been exposed to COVID-19. False negatives (tests saying you don't have COVID-19 when you actually do) are common! It's also important to avoid spreading illness to others even if it's not COVID-19!

This dog in the new Verizon commercial looks almost exactly like my dog, Willow, who we lost earlier this year at age 14. (Of course I haven’t rewatched the commercial and taken multiple photos of the tv screen to send to various family and friends. That would be super weird!!!)

A little found/visual poetry from Mrs. Dalloway for a Sunday afternoon: #smallpoemsunday
Found poetry from page 37 of Mrs Dalloway:

thick red roses
rest
in queer harmony,
growing hotter,
quivering in the
dazzling
soft
grass
Ordinary
Beauty
everywhere—
I must tell
the whole world!

Words on the page are obscured by ink and colored pencil in hues of gray and purple. A few collage elements added including roses and graphic text fragments. The unobscured words are outlined in thin black marker and make up the above “poem”.

A little Mary Oliver in case you are in the mood to be cheered down. #grief
Text of a poem by Mary Oliver:

The First Time Percy Came Back

The first time Percy came back he was not sailing on a cloud.
He was loping along the sand as though he had come a great way.
"Percy," I cried out, and reached to him— those white curls-
but he was unreachable. As music is present yet you can't touch it.
"Yes, it's all different," he said.
"You're going to be very surprised."
But I wasn't thinking of that. I only wanted to hold him. "Listen," he said,
"I miss that too.
And now you'll be telling stories of my coming back
and they won't be false, and they won't be true, but they'll be real."
And then, as he used to, he said, "Let's go!" And we walked down the beach together.

My mother passed yesterday morning. Glad she is at peace, but sad for me and my family. It’s all such a mystery, isn’t it. (From Joy Harjo:)
Text of a poem reading as follows :

First Morning

(for Shan Goshorn, December 3, 2018)

This is the first morning we are without you on earth.
The sun greeted us after a week of rain In your eastern green and mountain homelands.
Plants are fed, the river restored, and you have been wov Into a path of embracing stars of all colors Now free of the suffering that shapes us here.
We all learn how to let go, like learning how to walk When we first arrive here.
All those you thought you lost now circle you And you are free of pain and heartbreak.
Don't look back, keep going.
We will carry your memory here, until we join you In just a little while, one blink of star time.

A young Black boy stands at the top of a metal slide arms resting on the railings on either side of him. A vibrant blue sky lies behind and above him. He wears yellow pants, a red striped shirt and a denim jacket. There is a breathtaking feeling of serenity and possibly when viewing this work in person.
