I'd argue it's the lack of goals that makes the difference here, not the win condition. I can't win at dorfromantik, but I do have a goal to place tiles in a certain way to keep playing, and it feels like a game, while townscaper feels like a toy.

I'd recommend dual booting at first. I've been running mint for two months and I do have weird issues sometimes, mainly with performance, in games like poe 2 or the raft. That said, Subnautica 2 runs better on linux. Installation isn't a problem at this point, especially with mint or bazzite.

If you have Nvidia GPU, at some point during a reboot a somewhat scary blue screen might appear, asking you to enroll MOK. Don't skip it if you have secure boot enabled! Select enroll MOK and type universalblue. This is to make Nvidia drivers work. Hopefully it'll save you some troubleshooting time.

I've been using mint for the last 2 months and it's been great, but it won't have support for hdr until 2027. So if you need hdr now, you'll need a different distro, something with kde plasma or gnome probably.
