Honestly I think an argument could be made that some people only like gen AI because they think it’s cool, futuristic & don’t actually understand how it works. (This isn’t meant to be in reference to you btw, just rather addressing what I have personally seen)

Personally I’ve pretty much always been able to tell when something is AI generated. I’ve found that it triggers the uncanny valley sensation even before I look deeper & see all the signs of AI generation. I think it’s my background in art makes it easier to tell, but who knows

Actually about your 2nd & 3rd points, a study from Bowling Green University has shown that people, even if they struggle to identify between AI & human made, felt more positively & had a preference for the human made works. I think further studies will also confirm the same results.

My whole professional life there've been controversies over artists tracing someone else's art, plagiarism. My whole career I've dealt with the hideous theft of my work. Then some clown shoes billionaire tech bros come along and make a tech that literally CAN'T do what it does WITHOUT plagiarizing

Equating AI models being fed artists works to how real breathing people consume, experience & understand media (& the world around them) is illogical. Whether AI could ever have such understanding or sentience is a whole other debate. But I think it be highly unethical to strive for such thing.

Except: AI does not have the ability or nuance to have such thought. There is no evidence that AI can think & feel as a human can. When an artist or writer has ref and inspo sources there is almost always going to be nuance in how they are used & understood. Esp with more experienced creatives.

If you see this, post some cat art! Not sure if the chimera counts, but like 1/3 of him is a lion & that is a type of big cat.. so I think it gets by through technicality

Posted this as part of a QRP trend & decided to also show the process shots as a main post. Crazy that 2024 is almost over! I am happy with the growth I've had as an artist & even if I sometimes cringe at my older work, I know those pieces were necessary for me to have made in order to grow.

Screenshots of an illustration at different points of progress. Each one is numbered 1 to 6, with 1 being the earliest point of progress & 6 being the closest point of finish.
1.) rough sketch, just generally getting the gist of the figure & expression. 2.) Laying down color & working in the background. 3.) The start of the refinement process 4.) The furthering of the refinement process started in 3. On a separate layer I begin working on the smoke detail. 5.) I begin to make anatomical adjustments that I overlooked prior - basically I finally flipped my canvas. 6.) I make further adjustments to the anatomy/perspective, such as moving the shoulder. I also continue working on the rendering & lighting.

This is the finished illustration. It is of Sailor Moon & it is a redraw of 2 previous redraws I have done - which the 1st one was done because of the Sailor Moon redraw challenge in 2020.

I know there are tell-tale signs of gen ai & although specific anatomical mistakes are common in such images - they aren’t the only sign. Unfortunately there is a lot of nuance in discerning ai that gets lost when people blindly accuse. I wish gen ai just didn’t exist tbh

I kind of wish I was able to experience that, by the time I began using/learning Adobe software it was already a subscription model (first used it in 2016 when I was in highschool & it became subscription based in like 2013). Everything in my adult life has been ✨“subscription”✨

Since I did this before with another illustration, I thought I do it again for this Pokémon fan-art! So here is a side-by-side of the in-progress screenshots & what ended up being the final piece. It definitely was an emotional rollercoaster getting it how I liked it. #art #Pokémon #fanart

I think the only reason S&V seemed to have gotten less hate is because it genuinely was a fun experience. Are there things I wasn’t thrilled about? Sure. But it does feel like a step in the right direction. Now, I can’t speak too much about the glitchiness as I had very little issue with my copy

Tbh the worst games would be X & Y - don’t get me wrong, I played them as a kid & still enjoyed them, but they were really bare bones esp when comparing them to the generation before. B&W/B2&W2 were prob one of the best Pokémon experiences imo - although I’d say I had the most fun playing S & V

3 ~ I played sword & Shield prob about 6 months before S & V released, so even tho I saw a lot of the criticism about sword & Shield (like the 🌳, re-used 3D models, dex cuts), I feel I was able to separate my play experience from the initial outcry. (Plus didn’t have to wait for DLC)

I haven’t used the mutuals feed, but I have been using the following feed here & there. I feel I still see most of my mutuals posts (who at least post frequently). Even if that feed isn’t exclusive to moots, it does seem to reliably show me posts regardless of other factors
