A colleague once asked if I intentionally peppered a website w/ typos so folks wouldn’t assume an AI wrote it? The answer was, “No. I’m dyslexic, & my code editor doesn’t have a good spellcheck.” AI has odd 2nd order effects, & I get to explore them w/ my students. I ❤️ this class.

Excellent piece highlighting student voices on gen AI in higher education, including MS student Mirakle (pictured!) in my lab who is leading research on college student AI resisters. I can only assume that leadership at many universities are making incorrect assumptions about student attitudes.

It’s funny, because one of the “very smart AI guys” retorts to my focus on accountability has always been that the accountability chain was so legally obvious that it didn’t need mentioning, “managers cannot be held accountable either” blah blah blah rather than a genuinely unsettled legal question

I called out John Oliver a few months ago for applauding regulation that effectively requires chatbots to solve the suicide problem. I was told then that it was unlikely chatbots would shut down all communications about suicide. Here is Gemini, today, shutting down a convo w/a researcher.
