*sigh* Of course they do.
A Facebook ad from the US Department of Health and Human Services. The ad depicts a scarily distorted cell phone tower with the text: “HHS wants your opinion on wireless radiation.”

We’ve spent a lot of effort since the 60s defanging protests. The moment a window gets broken the public turns on the protestors. I’m not generally an advocate for violence, but it’s a lot easier for the government to ignore when they know the worst anyone is going to do is yell.

Americans are relearning the lesson we learned during the Gilded Age of the late 1890s, when robber barons ran the government and the economy for their own benefit: Oligarchy is incompatible with the common good. I'm hopeful we'll respond with a new progressive movement.

15 years ago when Apocalypse World was new and people were beginning to understand and work with it, it was seductive to look at "acting under fire" and see, not one basic move of several, but the template underlying all the game's moves. Like @kierongillen.bsky.social 's classic gag:

I am generally of the opinion that the BLT is one of those perfect sandwiches, where any attempt to fiddle with it is bound to produce an inferior sandwich. As a lover of mushrooms though, you’re making a very compelling case.

This is a great piece. It’s a shame it’s on substack. Read it or don’t, she describes why they were at the game, what help her husband offered and why she deferred that help. She also describes the pain of the comments after. In particular she addresses Kuiper and Krukow and asks they do better.

@mapquest.com , you’ve given me a really strong reason to like you right now but your search is unusably bad. Limited results, no filters for fine tuning. “Restaurants near me open now” is a basic use case for maps/GPS on a phone.

Twilight Imperium should’ve kept the Trench Run rule from 3e. (I forget what exactly they called it, but it was very obviously inspired by the trench run from the first Star Wars. It gave fighters a very small chance to automatically take out a War Sun.)

I think it’s a combination of: 1. There is a clear and concise rule about when an S gets an apostrophe and when it doesn’t. 2. Every clear and concise rule in the English language comes with at least a dozen exceptions and caveats. 3. People assume rules in English are lies to be ignored.

The Scouts have always been conservative, that surprises no one. And, in the sense of cultivating personal agency, civic engagement, and public responsibility that makes sense. But there’s no place for bigotry in the heart of anyone that takes its principles seriously. 2/2

I was a scout from Tiger to Eagle. One of the most enduring lessons I learned from that time is that we have a responsibility to do what’s right, especially when that’s hard. Especially when other people around you won’t. Watching the Scouts cave to bullies is galling. 1/2

This was honestly the realization that finally broke my climate skepticism. Insurance companies are uniquely positioned to have very large sums of money riding on understanding what the climate is *actually* doing, and they’ve been almost universally onboard with climate change since like the 90s.
