Thinking it through without looking up stats, I'd expect kicking the field goal gives you about a 50% chance of winning the game (shootout is basically 50/50 in principle, the short field goal is basically 100%). Would they have had a better than 50% chance of getting the TD? I'm not so sure.

Here's the clip. I went back and snagged it because I was curious about the offside and had trouble spotting it on the first watch.

The one to open the half? It travelled far enough, from the 30 to about the 42. They were just offside.

I must be making some real progress in learning French, because parts of this feel just like English to me.
Screenshot from the CFL app. At the top, in French, it shows where Edmonton and Toronto sit in the standings heading into today's game. At the bottom, also in French, it lists the results from each team's last five games, and has a series of labelled icons for various sections of the app. In between, in English, it says: THE STAKES

Toronto clinches postseason berth and a home playoff game

LCF.ca a réintégré le jeu par jeu dans le radar du match, et il est maintenant entièrement en français! Il traduit « yards » par « mètres », mais c’est mieux que rien.
Mobile screenshot of the radar du match (game tracker) from the CFL's French-language website for last week's 53-16 victory by Edmonton over Calgary. It shows the scoring by quarter and a description, in French, of the last few plays of the game.

I've known @maxfawcett.bsky.social for many years and admired his work and sometimes worried a bit about his willingness to pick fights with randos on the internet, so I'm startled to learn that it's his mildly colloquial use of the term "mandate" that has seemingly all of US Bluesky in a tizzy

You're reading an awful lot into the word "mandate" that was clearly not intended. We're all in agreement that Trump is an incompetent buffoon.

This is the part many Americans -- including the Bezosites at the Washington Post -- don't understand. Canadians don't see this just as a Trump thing. It's that America elected him twice, and the second time with an even bigger mandate. The problem we're addressing is America, not Trump.

Jake @stuffjakelikes.ca · 17/09/2026
Yeah, that one that you circled. Look, you can quibble about the word "mandate" if you want, but the fact is that Americans elected an obvious madman, then elected him again even after a coup attempt. As peoples, we share a lot. But as countries, Canada has to assume that America cannot be trusted.

Plus the price of gas is up, and as long as I can remember people have been wildly oversensitive to gas prices. It's silly, but definitely not new.

That, and also the fact that a whole lot of people apparently voted for Trump specifically because he promised to reduce (even reverse!) inflation. The difference between his pre-election rhetoric and current rhetoric/actions on inflation is... noticeable.
