Genomic predisposition is associated with the direction of sex chromosome evolution
Sex chromosome evolution is among the most dynamic genomic innovations in vertebrates, yet why some lineages evolve XY while others evolve ZW remains unclear. Using chromosome-level genomes from 19 ge...

Very stoked to get the most recent cover of @sicbjournals.bsky.social! Here's a glorious, pad-reduced viper #gecko (Hemidactylus imbricatus). Check out our the article below and the rest of this awesome issue! doi.org/10.1093/icb/... #GeckoEvoDevo
The cover of Integrative & Comparative Biology, volume 64, number 5, 2024. The cover features a view from above of a viper gecko (Hemidactylus imbricatus), a brown gecko with large scales and tan speckles.A scanning electron micrograph (greyscale image) of an embryonic viper gecko hand, with a view of the palm. The toe pads and other scales are well-developed.

What Evolutionary Biology Can and Can't Tell Us About Sex, Gender, and Sexuality
Some human social constructs like gender are viewed erroneously in an evolutionary context. It’s time for our understanding of a person’s self-identity to evolve.
