I think of short form video as more analogous to sophistry

I guess I should be careful about screening the type of car picking me up if I ever have to take a non-Waymo taxi in the Bay Area

Ok so the funniest thing about this is the idea that academics are punished for sexual harassment

What’s unnerving is that I also have it (yimbyism hurts me financially)

Safe routes to school, except our school site requirements force you to get like a 100 acre site that’s only available at the urban fringe.

Same here. Footprints are too large. Businesse in the much smaller storefronts on the ground floor of 100 year old buildings in the same neighborhood are thriving though

I mean thats what is actually intellectually offensive to me. They ignore most of philosophy of language and pretend they’re pushing some novel point instead of an old and refuted one. Also philosophers of language have responded to their paper and they’ve addressed those responses

It’s very crude externalism (so crude that even philosophers who would call themselves externalists would reject it)

at one point I asked Opus what it would like to create to make its little heart sing. it said something about conformal transforms (unprompted by earlier work, taste convergence I guess) which I didn't read and said sure sounds great. an hour later I returned to this. sorry I broke Claude, everyone

This building going up in San Jose is so funny. It's like if you stretched a standard 5 story apartment building up another 20 floors. As one commenter said, the final boss of massing breaks and facade articulation. sfyimby.com/2026/10/new-...

Many analogies with housing. “Don’t let developers profit from housing“ ok do you support housing becoming scarcer and further out of reach for the middle class

I guess I’m about to be all meta, but with regard to a certain colorfully named distributive avian construct in my corner of the discourse: I find it notable that the originators of said construct repeatedly insist that there is a single correct interpretation for how the construct is understood.

Like, my point is mathematicians who have no incentive to help OpenAI are out there making non marketing claims and disclosing that it’s a human-AI collab which IMO is still groundbreaking

Also there was the mathematician who made progress on the navier stokes thing (and callled out OpenAI for their sketchy behavior) who was transparent that he used OpenAI models to assist him.

"In the states examined in this analysis, a drop of approximately 20% in inflation-adjusted rents—as happened in Austin, Texas, and Minneapolis after those cities made reforms—could reduce poverty by 18% to 26% and child poverty by 21% to 38%." www.pew.org/en/research-...
