Shocked #Quartz is one piece of evidence that helps identify large impact areas, like the one left by Chicxulub asteroid. The quartz crystals develop a series of parallel laminae, called shock lamellae that indicate deformation, or breakage of the crystal along multiple, parallel planes. #MinCup26

24-hour total: 0.28 inches of rain at 7 am (though really since around maybe 5am). That makes 19.52 inches for the water year (compared to NOAA normal of 17.56). But 5.77 inches were this Sept, and 5.67 were last Oct. Not right for agriculture or skiing.

I’m old enough to remember when the Tea Party whipped up a frenzy among conservative parents (and eventually others) around how Common Core’s “new math” was allegedly causing children to struggle to learn math. There’s a latent frame there if someone (a political candidate?) wanted to activate it.

Argh. Our water heater died before the heat pump water heater tech improvements arrived. (Size and location of existing water heater make the current options not ideal. Plus the current heater died on a weekend and the simple option was straight replacement today.)

At least an inch of rain in Durango today (rain has finally let up though). That will push my gauge over the normal precip for the water year. Animas at Tall Timber is 1910 cfs and still rising. 360 cfs in town, but it should keep going up tomorrow. Below Silverton it's 700 cfs and rising.

My water year summary on CoCoRaHS is a bit misleading. It's 94% of normal with a couple weeks to go, but most precip came in a big storm last Oct, and another storm this week.
