I had a "science fiction and fantasy book club" that wanted to discuss my edited volume about immigration to Japan. I wrote back and said that my academic press had only budgeted $2 million for publicity and we had already exhausted that budget, so I was not able to participate.

I got one from a "fantasy and sci-fi book club" to have a discussion about my book about Japanese immigration policy. I wrote back saying I'd love to participate but my press only had a promotion budget of $2 million per book, and we had already spent all of it and could not afford anything else.

I am teaching an undergrad political science methods class in the fall on data visualization and advanced data analysis. I am going to use @kjhealy.co's & @hankjs.bsky.social's book. Do any of you have journal articles to recommend that visualize or explain polici methods well for undergrads?

Not sure why an age-based breakdown of support for the Takaichi cabinet would be poor statistical literacy, especially when discussing Japan's election results from yesterday.

Most incredible about this is that IU-Bloomington has long been the no. 1 university in the world for teaching Asian languages and cultures, with many programs found nowhere else. They're slashing many of IU-B's most distinctive programs with zero thought or debate. They probably don't even know.
