We just cannot rely on technology that's created by the insane. Capitalism and the crank Epstein class have consumed the digital revolution that is barely in the third decade of its life. Cinema has been around for over a century now and we've been painting on cave walls since prehistory.

I know there are other systems but what happens when they start using AI for coding too? Ah well, as I mentioned early, filmmaking didn't start in the digital age. For most of its existence it has been an analogue art. We'll just have to do something else.

There was limitations as well, of course but possibilities too! Well, the dip in the industry forced my friend to take a different course in their career but there was always a hope we could go back to our mad notions. This news makes it far less likely as his system was all set around Unreal.

The key thing for me was that the actual set could act as a light source and you could get refractions and reflections you couldn't get using green screen. You could play around with translucent materials in front of the set and play around with light in so many cool ways.

I had a friend who set up his own Virtual Production company during Covid. We had great plans and some exciting ideas for creative ways to use that technology that isn't just the lazy way they've been using it lately in Marvel productions.

Also, I think the goal with the changes and opening up the story into a multi series thing (Flanagan has said in interviews this is his hope) and all the other King adaptations he's attached to in the works may be a way of setting up and launching his take on The Dark Tower.

Haha, me too… except only two. Later shot on Betacam editing on some kind of linear system that I can’t recall the name of, 16mm /Steenbeck, super 8 etc. So long as there’s some kind of camera, there’s a way to make films. But yes, as you say… other artforms are fine also!

Yes, as a filmaker I use computers for work. Guess what, cinema predates the silicon chip by at least 50 years. We could go back to analogue methods to continue the art form. Cinema doesn't need the tech industry to exist and we don't need any data centres to create.
