Loosen up and listen in, Oct 11! Connect your artist's mind, ear and eye, sketching along to an album. Find inspiration in melodies while choosing your own medium. Draw what you hear in this jam session hosted by A.C. Esguerra, followed by an optional show & tell to share your creations!
A graphic announcing the “EAR & EYE JAM SESSIONS” event, to be held on Sunday, October 11th, at 11 AM PT / 2 PM ET / 7 PM GMT / 5 AM (Monday) AEST. The illustration is mostly black and ivory in a sketchy fountain pen style. On a page of sheet music, an inkwell with a coy, mysterious smile draws musical bars using a singing five-pronged pen nib. Text below reads: “Listen to a music album start to finish, draw what you hear”. Music notes stylized to look like eyes, time signatures and squiggles of ink decorate the page.

Beta readers can make or break your next draft. Make sure to hire one who knows your genre, send clear questions with your manuscript, and look for patterns in the feedback. Luckily for you, we've already done the hard part! Find a beta reader in the EFA Member Directory: bit.ly/4rBhVhR 🌐

Editorial professionals can deliver feedback more reliably than a volunteer, describe their experience, and provide testimonials." The second tip reads "Look for genre specialists. Hire a beta reader who reads extensively in your genre for the most applicable feedback." The first tip reads "Send more than just your manuscript. Provide a list of questions, goals, and specific areas you want them to address," next to a drawing of an open notebook and pencil. A calico is lying face up inside someone’s armpit, showing their mostly-white underside with only vague hints of the orange and tabby colouring around the edges. We see only the top half of the cat and the arm making a frame around her. The cat’s ears are smooshed so only the tip of one can be seen poking out the top of the head at a weird angle. The cat’s eyes are bright green to match the red nose.

I LOVE The Crystal Cave: just the general mood and realistic vibe of the entire thing. I read the other 2 and didn’t like them as much, mainly because I enjoyed Merlin as the hero of his own story and have never found Arthur to be interesting as a character.

New comic! Possession might be nine-tenths of the law, or possession might be theft... We only know that possession of a game doesn't guarantee you'll ever play it! 😇 📜 You can read this week's blog post at: semicoop.com/comic/purchasing-games-2026/ #boardgames
A two-panel comic titled “Purchasing Games in 2026.” In the first panel, a video game executive holds up a videogame and explains, “You’re not buying the game. You are purchasing a license to play a game… as long as we decide to keep the game alive.” In the second panel, Rachel holds a game box and says, “You’re not buying the game.” A second speech bubble continues: “You’re buying the hope that one day you’ll have the free time and a friend group to play it.” (credits to Eize Basa whose message was inspiration for this comic).
